EgyptAir to launch Cairo-Singapore-Sydney flight in 2027

North African carrier EgyptAir is spreading its wings to Singapore with a new Cairo-Singapore-Sydney service, Changi Airport Group (CAG) announced on Thursday (Sept 10).

If approved by regulators, the service will be the first direct link to North Africa for both Singapore and Sydney.

EgyptAir, the flag carrier of Egypt, will operate its Airbus A350-900 for the route.

According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Egypt has a strong aviation growth outlook, with demand forecast to grow by between 3.4 per cent to 3.8 per cent annually, above the global average growth rate of 3.1 per cent.

Its data also show that Egypt is the largest unserved market in the African continent for both Singapore and Australia by point-to-point traffic last year.

"Beyond enhancing connectivity and travel options for travellers, the service will also foster closer economic and cultural exchanges between the three countries," CAG said in a statement.

The new route will connect three distinctive global cities, each with its own unique blend of cultural, heritage and architectural sights.

The airline's vice president Amr Adawy said the prospective service will strengthen EgyptAir's presence in the Asia-Pacific market while providing passengers with convenient access to Egypt and seamless connections across its network in Africa, Europe and the Middle East.

Lim Ching Kiat, CAG's executive vice president for air hub and cargo development, said travellers from Egypt and Australia will gain "seamless access" to destinations across Southeast Asia and the wider Asia-Pacific, once the new service comes online.

He added that Changi's passengers from Singapore and the region will also get to enjoy convenient access to Cairo and onward connections across Africa and beyond.

The new service is expected to begin in early 2027.

埃及航空副总裁阿姆尔·阿达维表示，这项即将开通的服务将加强埃及航空在亚太市场的地位，同时为乘客提供前往埃及的便利，以及在其非洲、欧洲和中东航线网络中的无缝衔接。

新加坡民航集团（CAG）航空枢纽及货运发展执行副总裁林清杰表示，一旦这项新服务开通，来自埃及和澳大利亚的旅客将能够“无缝”前往东南亚及更广泛的亚太地区的各个目的地。

他还补充说，樟宜机场来自新加坡和该地区的乘客也将能够便捷地前往开罗，并转机前往非洲及其他地区。

这项新服务预计将于 2027 年初开始。
