SEOUL, Sept. 10 (Yonhap) -- South Korea has signed a deal to export 18 Chunmoo multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) to Croatia in an arms contract worth some 640 billion won (US$477 million), the state arms procurement agency said Thursday.

South Korean defense firm Hanwha Aerospace Co. signed the deal worth 410 million euros with Croatia's defense ministry on Thursday (local time), according to the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA).

It marks the first major defense contract signed between South Korea and Croatia.

Croatia has become the fourth European country to acquire the Chunmoo system, following Poland, Estonia and Norway.

The Chunmoo MLRS, mainly designed to counter North Korea's long-range artillery threats, is a South Korean weapons system capable of delivering rapid, precision strikes using various types of rockets and missiles with different ranges.

DAPA said it anticipates that exports of the Chunmoo system will serve as a stepping stone to expand long-term, strategic cooperation with local defense firms in Croatia, including on industrial cooperation and post-logistics support.

On Thursday, Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back and DAPA Minister Lee Yong-cheol attended the signing ceremony, hosted by the Croatian prime minister and discussed ways to expand bilateral defense cooperation.

首尔，9月10日（韩联社）——韩国国家武器采购机构周四表示，韩国已签署协议，向克罗地亚出口18套“天武”多管火箭炮系统（MLRS），军售合同价值约6400亿韩元（4.77亿美元）。

据国防采办计划管理局 (DAPA) 消息，韩国国防公司韩华航空航天公司于周四（当地时间）与克罗地亚国防部签署了一项价值 4.1 亿欧元的协议。

这是韩国和克罗地亚签署的首份重大国防合同。

继波兰、爱沙尼亚和挪威之后，克罗地亚成为第四个引进Chunmoo系统的欧洲国家。

“天武”多管火箭炮系统主要用于对抗朝鲜的远程炮兵威胁，是韩国研制的一种武器系统，能够使用各种射程不同的火箭弹和导弹进行快速、精确的打击。

DAPA表示，预计春武系统的出口将成为扩大与克罗地亚当地国防企业长期战略合作的跳板，合作内容包括工业合作和后勤支持。

周四，国防部长安圭培和国防采办计划署长李勇哲出席了由克罗地亚总理主持的签字仪式，并讨论了扩大双边防务合作的方式。
