FM Cho seeks Ugandan support for Korean nuclear, AI push

SEOUL, Sept. 10 (Yonhap) -- Foreign Minister Cho Hyun met Crispus Walter Kiyonga, Uganda's second deputy prime minister, on Thursday and asked for the African nation's support for South Korean companies doing business there, Seoul's ministry said.

Cho noted on the progress both countries have made in nuclear cooperation, as the Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power was contracted by Uganda's energy ministry in May last year to assess a proposed site in the Buyende region for the country's first nuclear power plant.

The minister asked Uganda to continue backing South Korean firms in the nuclear energy as well as artificial intelligence (AI) sectors.

In response, Kiyonga said he would consider ways to support South Korean businesses, according to the ministry.

They also agreed to expand cooperation in agriculture, mineral resources, tourism, energy, and information and communications technology, the ministry said.

首尔，9月10日（韩联社）——韩国外交部表示，外交部长赵显铉周四会见了乌干达第二副总理克里斯帕斯·沃尔特·基永加，并请求乌干达支持在乌干达开展业务的韩国企业。

Cho 指出，两国在核能合作方面取得了进展，因为韩国水力核电公司去年 5 月与乌干达能源部签订合同，评估布延德地区拟建该国第一座核电站的选址。

这位部长要求乌干达继续支持韩国企业在核能和人工智能（AI）领域的发展。

据韩国商务部消息，基永加回应称，他将考虑如何支持韩国企业。
