Haze update for Sept 11: 24-hour PSI expected to be in moderate to low unhealthy range

Moderate to heavy thundery showers over several areas of Singapore on Friday (Sept 11) afternoon brought some respite from the haze and heat.

As at 6pm, 24-hour Pollutant Standard Index (PSI) readings across all five regions on Singapore are in the moderate range.

Meanwhile, 1-hour PM2.5 readings are also in the normal range.

But the National Environment Agency (NEA) expects the Republic's 24-hour PSI to be in the moderate to low unhealthy range.

NEA said in its daily haze situation update on Friday evening that moderate to dense smoke plumes have continued to be observed from fires in southern Sumatra and Kalimantan.

It noted that showers could be expected over northern and central Sumatra over the coming days, but that dry conditions are forecast over Kalimantan and southern Sumatra.

This, coupled with the prevailing southerly or south-easterly winds means there remains a risk of transboundary smoke haze affecting Singapore, should fires in Indonesia persist.

Members of the public are reminded that the health impact of haze is dependent on one's health status, the PSI level, and the length and intensity of outdoor activity.

国家环境局在周五晚间发布的每日雾霾情况通报中表示，苏门答腊南部和加里曼丹的火灾持续产生中度至重度烟雾。

报告指出，未来几天苏门答腊北部和中部地区可能会有阵雨，但加里曼丹和苏门答腊南部地区预计将出现干燥天气。

再加上盛行的南风或东南风，这意味着如果印度尼西亚的火灾持续下去，跨境烟霾仍可能影响新加坡。
