Malaysia's National Day Reception highlights economic and cultural bonds with Thailand

BANGKOK (Bernama): More than 750 guests attended a reception hosted by the Malaysian Embassy here on Friday (Sept 11) night to commemorate Malaysia’s National Day, with this year’s celebration highlighting the theme "Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati”.

The reception, held at a hotel in Bang Rak, brought together foreign diplomats, Malaysian professionals, business leaders and representatives of the Malaysian-Thai Chamber of Commerce (MTCC), Kelab Malaysia of Thailand (KMT) and Malaysians in Bangkok (MIB).

Malaysian Ambassador to Thailand Datuk Wan Zaidi Wan Abdullah and his wife Datin Zuhaila Abd Latif welcomed the guests.

In his welcoming remarks, Wan Zaidi described Thailand as an important economic partner for Malaysia, saying both countries were well positioned to leverage their geographical proximity and economic complementarity to create greater prosperity and competitive strength.

"Both countries share a target of achieving US$30 billion in bilateral trade by next year, with stronger cooperation needed to build resilient cross-border supply chains, enhance research and development, strengthen capacity building and accelerate industrial integration,” he said.

He said closer economic integration would not only create new opportunities for bilateral growth but also strengthen ASEAN’s position as a dynamic, integrated and competitive production and investment hub.

"We are confident that this spirit of partnership will translate into tangible, enduring and mutually rewarding outcomes for our two countries, while contributing to the broader prosperity and dynamism of our region,” he said.

Thailand’s Culture Minister Sabeeda Thaised was the guest of honour at the reception, which was also attended by Deputy Education Minister Akaranun Khankittinan, Privy Councillor Mom Luang Panadda Diskul, Senate President Mongkol Surasajja and Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt.

Wan Zaidi also highlighted Malaysia and Thailand’s shared role as founding members of ASEAN in 1967, saying both countries remained committed to regional cooperation, peace and prosperity.

He said the longstanding friendship between the two neighbouring countries had enabled them to stand together through achievements and challenges, while building a strategic partnership based on mutual understanding and a shared commitment to regional peace and prosperity.

"Malaysia and Thailand enjoy a natural advantage in understanding one another, built on a rich history that has only grown stronger over time,” he said.

Guests were treated to an array of Malaysian delicacies, including lontong with nasi impit, nyonya curry laksa, pasembur, mee goreng mamak, cendol, teh tarik and ais kacang.

The reception also featured cultural performances, including dikir puteri, a Chinese drum performance and Joget Malaysia. -- Bernama

曼谷（马新社）：周五（9月11日）晚，马来西亚驻曼谷大使馆举办招待会，庆祝马来西亚国庆日，超过750位宾客出席。今年的庆祝活动以“Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati”（马来西亚国庆：幸福安康）为主题。

招待会在邦拉克的一家酒店举行，外国外交官、马来西亚专业人士、商界领袖以及马来西亚-泰国商会 (MTCC)、泰国马来西亚俱乐部 (KMT) 和曼谷马来西亚人协会 (MIB) 的代表齐聚一堂。

马来西亚驻泰国大使拿督万再迪万阿卜杜拉和夫人拿汀祖海拉阿卜杜勒拉蒂夫热情接待了客人。

万扎伊迪在致欢迎辞时表示，泰国是马来西亚重要的经济伙伴，两国都具备利用地理位置接近和经济互补优势来创造更大繁荣和竞争优势的良好条件。

他说：“两国共同的目标是到明年实现300亿美元的双边贸易额，需要加强合作，以构建具有韧性的跨境供应链，加强研发，强化能力建设，加快产业一体化进程。”

他表示，更紧密的经济一体化不仅将为双边增长创造新的机遇，还将加强东盟作为充满活力、一体化和具有竞争力的生产和投资中心的地位。

他说：“我们相信，这种伙伴关系精神将为我们两国带来切实、持久和互惠互利的成果，同时也将为我们地区的繁荣和活力做出贡献。”

泰国文化部长萨比达·泰塞德是招待会的贵宾，出席招待会的还有教育部副部长阿卡拉努·坎吉提南、枢密院顾问官蒙銮·帕纳达·迪斯库尔、参议院议长蒙坤·苏拉萨贾和曼谷市长查查特·西提蓬。

万扎伊迪还强调了马来西亚和泰国作为1967年东盟创始成员国的共同作用，并表示两国将继续致力于区域合作、和平与繁荣。

他表示，两国之间源远流长的友谊使两国能够携手共进，共同面对挑战，并在相互理解和对地区和平与繁荣的共同承诺的基础上，建立战略伙伴关系。

他说：“马来西亚和泰国在相互了解方面拥有天然优势，这种优势建立在悠久的历史之上，而且随着时间的推移，这种历史只会变得更加牢固。”

客人们享用了一系列马来西亚美食，包括龙东配椰浆饭、娘惹咖喱叻沙、pasembur、mee goreng mamak、cendol、teh tarik 和 ais kacang。

招待会还举办了文化表演，包括中国鼓表演、Joget Malaysia 等。 ——马新社
