Nurses wanted: Public Service Commission says 400 posts still open despite hiring push

The Public Service Commission (SPA) has filled over 1,000 nursing vacancies in Malaysia's public sector through open interviews and career carnivals, aiming to address critical staffing shortages in the healthcare industry.

Despite making significant recruitment progress, there remains a need to hire several hundred more nurses as demand continues to outstrip supply.

Open interviews and walk-in methods introduced by SPA have expedited the recruitment process and provided opportunities for qualified youths.

Meanwhile, SPA ensures succession plans are in place to accommodate personnel changes, allowing civil servants the freedom to pursue better employment opportunities elsewhere.

KUALA KANGSAR, Sept 12 — The Public Service Commission (SPA) has filled more than 1,000 nursing vacancies in the public service to date, with open interviews being conducted to expedite the recruitment process.

Its chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Jailani Muhamed Yunus said the move was among its immediate efforts to address the need to fill critical posts, particularly nurses, who are in high demand in the healthcare sector.

“To date, we need more than 1,400 (nurses) and we have already filled more than 1,000. So, we still need several hundred more to be filled urgently.

“These efforts are ongoing from time to time because there are also nursing positions that require candidates to undergo training, and this training takes time,” he told reporters after officiating at the SPA Madani Adopted Village Project Handover Ceremony at Kampung Orang Asli Ulu Chenein here today.

Also present were Department of Orang Asli Development Director-General Muhammad Akmal Ila Ahmad, SPA Secretary Datuk Ikhbal Hanam Mukras and Kampung Orang Asli Ulu Chenein village head Din Alang.

Ahmad Jailani said the open interview and walk-in methods were introduced early this year through several career carnivals organised by SPA nationwide, providing more opportunities for qualified youths to join the public service.

He said candidates with a diploma in nursing could walk in for an interview, while those who had yet to submit an online application could also complete their SPA application at the interview centre before attending the session.

“This is also a breakthrough effort that we have undertaken to expedite the process. If we use the usual process, there may sometimes be delays. Apart from nurses, SPA is also focusing on filling several other critical positions that require urgent recruitment, including Public Health Assistants.

“The demand for nurses is quite high, particularly as the healthcare industry has become increasingly important in the country. Therefore, the target is usually (recruiting) nurses into the public service, as the possibly better offers in the private sector mean that a large proportion of them join (the private sector) rather than the public service,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Jailani, who is also chairman of the Judicial and Legal Service Commission, said the government did not prevent civil servants from seeking better employment opportunities after completing their contracts but instead, SPA would ensure that succession plans were implemented by continuously recruiting new personnel.

“They have contracts that have been stipulated in their appointments. However, once their contracts expire, they are free. We cannot prevent any government officers from seeking better employment opportunities.

“So, there are no restrictions in this regard and we give them the freedom to do so. Nevertheless, we believe the important thing is the succession plan, and we will find ways to recruit new personnel. I am confident that if we go to places such as Felda Chenein in Lenggong, we can find youths who want to join the service,” he said. — Bernama

马来西亚公共服务委员会 (SPA) 通过公开面试和招聘会填补了马来西亚公共部门 1000 多个护理职位空缺，旨在解决医疗保健行业人员严重短缺的问题。

尽管在招聘方面取得了显著进展，但由于需求持续超过供应，仍然需要再招聘数百名护士。

瓜拉江沙，9月12日讯——公共服务委员会（SPA）迄今已填补了公共服务部门1000多个护理职位空缺，并通过公开面试加快招聘流程。

其主席拿督斯里艾哈迈德·贾拉尼·穆罕默德·尤努斯博士表示，此举是该机构为解决填补关键职位空缺（特别是医疗保健行业急需的护士职位）而采取的直接措施之一。

“到目前为止，我们需要超过1400名护士，我们已经招满了1000多名。所以，我们仍然急需数百名护士。”

“这些努力会不时地持续进行，因为有些护理职位需要候选人接受培训，而这种培训需要时间，”他今天在坎邦奥朗阿斯利乌鲁切宁村主持SPA马达尼认养村项目交接仪式后告诉记者。

艾哈迈德·贾拉尼表示，今年年初，新加坡公共服务局（SPA）在全国范围内举办了多场职业博览会，引入了开放式面试和现场面试的方式，为更多合格的青年加入公共服务部门提供了机会。

他说，持有护理文凭的候选人可以直接来面试，而那些尚未提交在线申请的人也可以在面试中心完成他们的SPA申请，然后再参加面试。

“这也是我们为加快招聘流程而采取的一项突破性举措。如果采用常规流程，有时可能会出现延误。除了护士之外，SPA 还致力于填补其他几个急需招聘的关键职位，包括公共卫生助理。”

他说：“对护士的需求量相当高，尤其是在医疗保健行业在该国变得越来越重要的情况下。因此，通常的目标是（招募）护士进入公共服务部门，因为私营部门可能提供更好的待遇，这意味着很大一部分护士会选择加入私营部门而不是公共服务部门。”

与此同时，司法和法律服务委员会主席艾哈迈德·贾拉尼表示，政府不会阻止公务员在合同期满后寻求更好的就业机会，而是通过不断招聘新人员来确保继任计划的实施。

“他们的聘用合同中已明确规定了相关条款。但是，一旦合同到期，他们就自由了。我们不能阻止任何政府官员寻求更好的就业机会。”

“所以，在这方面没有任何限制，我们给予他们充分的自由。不过，我们认为最重要的是继任计划，我们会找到招募新人员的方法。我相信，如果我们去像玲珑的Felda Chenein这样的地方，就能找到愿意加入这项事业的年轻人。”他说道。——马新社
