Korean Marines participate in US, Indonesia-led multinational drills

The Korean Marines have taken part in annual multinational joint drills led by the United States and Indonesia, aimed at enhancing interoperability, the Marine Corps said Monday.

The two-week Super Garuda Shield exercise was held from Aug. 31 to Friday in Lampung and Bandung in Indonesia, involving troops from 15 nations, including Korea, Canada and Japan.

It marks the second time that Korean troops have joined the drills after taking part in the exercise for the first time last year.

During the drills, the Korean Marines participated in a range of joint exercises, including field training exercises (FTX) involving jungle warfare missions and cyber drills designed to acquaint troops with cyber attack and defense capabilities.

Launched in 2007, the Super Garuda Shield exercise began as a bilateral exercise between the U.S. and Indonesia to enhance operational capabilities in jungle warfare, but has since evolved into a large-scale multinational exercise.

美国海军陆战队周一表示，韩国海军陆战队参加了由美国和印度尼西亚领导的年度多国联合演习，旨在提高互操作性。

为期两周的“超级迦楼罗之盾”演习于8月31日至周五在印度尼西亚的楠榜和万隆举行，共有来自15个国家的军队参加，其中包括韩国、加拿大和日本。

这是韩国军队第二次参加该项演习，他们去年首次参加了该项演习。

在演习期间，韩国海军陆战队参加了一系列联合演习，包括涉及丛林作战任务的野外训练演习（FTX）和旨在使部队熟悉网络攻击和防御能力的网络演习。

“超级迦楼罗之盾”演习于 2007 年启动，最初是美国和印度尼西亚之间的双边演习，旨在提高丛林作战能力，但后来发展成为大规模多国演习。
