Antisemitic hate crimes on the rise in NYC this year while NYPD touts the safest summer on record

Antisemitic hate crimes are up 8% so far this year and make up more than half of the incidents in New York City, even as officials tout record low numbers for shootings and murders, according to statistics released by the New York Police Department on Thursday.

Overall hate crimes in New York City are up just over 15%, with 425 incidents this year compared to 367 last year, and antisemitic crimes account for 53.9% of those incidents, the data show.

That rise came at the same time as what police officials called the safest summer on record for the city.

“These historic lows all happened while managing an unprecedented series of high-profile events, including the NBA Finals, the World Cup, Sail 250, and the largest Fourth of July celebration in the nation,” NYPD Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch said in a news release.

For major crimes so far this year, shooting incidents declined 9.6%, burglaries declined 13.9% and murders declined 24.1%, the data show.

The summer saw a pair of high-profile antisemitic incidents among other hate crimes.

In August, a 46-year-old man was arrested after authorities said he barged into a synagogue in Manhattan and disrupted Shabbat services before yelling antisemitic remarks, attacking a woman and hurling a racial slur at one of the security guards. Federal prosecutors from the Southern District of New York charged the man — who authorities believed to be emotionally disturbed — with federal hate crimes .

In July, two men — an Asian man and Jewish man wearing a kippah who had just left a synagogue — were stabbed on the Upper West Side in separate incidents. The attacker, a 51-year-old man was heard by witnesses shouting “Allahu Akbar” before stabbing both victims, according to court records.

Despite the increase in antisemitic violence, the statistics also show a slight decrease when solely comparing the month of August this year to last.

There were 19 antisemitic hate crime incidents this year when compared to August 2025 which had 22, the statistics show.

8月，一名46岁男子因闯入曼哈顿一座犹太教堂，扰乱安息日礼拜仪式而被捕。据当局称，该男子随后发表反犹太言论，袭击一名女子，并对一名保安人员进行种族歧视辱骂。纽约南区联邦检察官以联邦仇恨犯罪指控这名男子，当局认为他情绪不稳定。

7月，两名男子——一名亚裔男子和一名刚从犹太教堂出来、戴着犹太小圆帽的犹太男子——在纽约上西区分别遭到刺伤。据法庭记录显示，袭击者是一名51岁的男子，目击者听到他在行凶前高喊“真主至大”。

尽管反犹太暴力事件有所增加，但统计数据显示，如果仅比较今年 8 月与去年同期，反犹太暴力事件略有下降。

统计数据显示，今年发生了 19 起反犹太仇恨犯罪事件，而 2025 年 8 月则发生了 22 起。
