'Deeply alarming' violence, fraud mar Mindanao elections in the Philippines

COTABATO CITY, Philippines: At least four people died while 20 others were injured in shooting and other violent incidents as the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) finally held its first parliamentary elections on Monday (Sept 14).

While the combined 20,000-strong military and police deployment significantly reduced tensions and made the polls more peaceful than previous ones, several cases of violent incidents, mostly in Cotabato City, still marred the historic event.
