Esso kicks off 3rd consecutive day of fuel price hike in Singapore

Pump prices have risen for a third consecutive day in Singapore, with Esso leading the latest round of price adjustments on Wednesday (Sept 16).

Chandra Asri-owned Esso announced in a price board update at its stations that it has raised posted prices for all fuel types — 92-, 95-, 98-octane petrol and diesel — by 4 cents per litre.

The adjustment mirrors Shell's hikes, also by 4 cents, a day earlier .

This brings Esso's total increase over two days to 12 cents per litre for every type of fuel at its pumps.

It also becomes the second major fuel company here to take 98-octane prices past the $4 mark.

Following the latest round of price hikes, the price of the more popular 95-octane petrol now ranges from $3.36 at SPC to $3.49 at Caltex, Esso and Shell — which also have the same prices across their respective offered fuel types.

At the time of this article's publication, SPC is the only company not to have posted any adjustment to its fuel prices.

Brent crude futures fell slightly to US$107.82 a barrel at 8.28am (Singapore time) on Wednesday after an unexpected build in US crude inventories.

Meanwhile, investors are assessing supply risks after Saudi Arabia suspended oil loadings at its Yanbu port following an attack on its East-West pipeline to the Red Sea last week.

The 1,200-km pipeline running across the Arabian Peninsula has served as the main route out for global supplies of Middle East oil for the past six months while the Strait of Hormuz has been largely shut by war.

It has been moving four to five million barrels per day, amounting to 4 per cent to 5 per cent of global supply, sparing Saudi Arabia the brunt of the disruption that has crippled other Gulf oil and gas exporters. [[nid:745215]]
