Wetter weather expected in Singapore over next 2 weeks; warm nights to persist

Singapore may get some respite from the haze and heat in the second half of September with more showers forecast, the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) said in its fortnightly update on Wednesday (Sept 16).

The weatherman said that localised short-duration thundery showers are expected between the late morning and afternoon over most parts of the island on most days, adding that widespread moderate to thundery showers — caused by regional convergence of winds — is expected on one or two days.

"Overall, the total rainfall for the second fortnight of September 2026 is forecast to be near the long-term average across most parts of the island," MSS said.

Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to be similar to the first half of September, ranging between 33 and 34 deg C on most days, but could reach around 35 deg C on a few days.

It also forecast warm and humid conditions on some nights, with minimum temperatures remaining above 27 deg C.

Mostly dry conditions in first half of September

The city state experienced mostly dry conditions in the first fortnight of September, with brief thundery showers recorded over parts of the island on some days.

Despite brief thundery showers occurring over parts on some days, well-below-average rainfall was recorded in the two weeks, with Changi registering rainfall of about 98 per cent below average.

The highest rainfall recorded was 105mm at Scotts Road on Sept 11.

Over the past two weeks, daily maximum temperatures exceeded 34 deg C on 12 occasions, with the highest temperature of 35.3 deg C recorded at Sembawang on Sept 9.

Nights also remained warm, with minimum temperatures staying above 27 deg C across many parts of the island, MSS data showed.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) is providing daily haze advisories after the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) crossed into the unhealthy range for the first time since October 2023 on Sept 4 .

Members of the public should note that the health impact of haze is dependent on one’s health status, the PSI level, and the length and intensity of outdoor activity.

They are advised to check one-hour PM2.5 concentration readings and the accompanying personal guide when deciding on outdoor activities in the next few hours.

For planning outdoor activities the following day, they should refer to the 24-hour PSI forecast and the corresponding health advisories.

九月上半月大部分时间天气干燥
