(LEAD) Seoul stocks open higher despite first Fed rate hike in over 3 yrs

SEOUL, Sept. 17 (Yonhap) -- Seoul stocks opened higher Thursday, led by gains in tech stocks, despite the Federal Reserve's first rate hike in over three years.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) was up 6.49 points, or 0.1 percent, to 6,724.46, as of 9:14 a.m.

Overnight, major stock indexes on Wall Street closed down after the Fed delivered the first quarter-percentage point rate increase since 2023 to combat inflationary pressures.

The Fed raised its base rate by a quarter percentage point to a range of 3.75 percent and 4 percent.

"Local stocks are expected to suffer volatility, as investors digest the hawkish Federal Open Market Committee meeting," said Han Ji-young, an analyst from Kiwoom Securities.

Market top-cap Samsung Electronics added 0.3 percent, while its industry rival SK hynix shed 0.8 percent.

Battery maker LG Energy Solutions dipped 0.82 percent, while financial firm KB Financial rose 1.47 percent, and defense giant Hanwha Aerospace increased 1.14 percent.

The Korean won was quoted at 1,374.3 won against the U.S. dollar as of 9:14 a.m., up 2.7 won from the previous trading session.

截至上午9点14分，韩国综合股价指数（KOSPI）上涨6.49点，涨幅0.1%，至6724.46点。

隔夜，美联储宣布自 2023 年以来首次加息 25 个百分点，以应对通胀压力，华尔街主要股指收跌。

美联储将基准利率上调0.25个百分点，至3.75%至4%的区间。

“由于投资者正在消化鹰派的联邦公开市场委员会会议结果，预计本地股市将出现波动，”Kiwoom证券分析师韩智英表示。

市值最高的三星电子股价上涨0.3%，而其行业竞争对手SK海力士股价下跌0.8%。

电池制造商 LG 能源解决方案股价下跌 0.82%，金融公司 KB Financial 股价上涨 1.47%，国防巨头韩华航空航天股价上涨 1.14%。

截至上午 9 点 14 分，韩元兑美元汇率为 1374.3 韩元，较前一交易日上涨 2.7 韩元。
