'No Now, No LAH, No CDC': Kovan drinks stall goes viral with cheeky cash-only signs

A drinks stall at Kovan 209 Market & Food Centre has caught the attention of TikTok users with a series of quirky signs telling customers that it accepts cash payments only.

One of the signs reads "No Now, No LAH, No CDC, Only Mr Yusof Bin Ishak", a playful reference to the late Singapore president featured on the country's banknotes.

The signs were spotted in a TikTok post by user manistripping, who showed the notices displayed outside the stall.

Another sign reads "No Di Luo Here", referring to thick, concentrated drinks, while a third states "No Small Cup".

A separate notice makes the stall's payment policy clear: "Cash Only".

The stall owner told Stomp that her mother, who operates the business with her, does not know how to accept PayNow payments.

"She can't even write her own name, how will she know how to [use PayNow]?" the owner quipped.

She added that her mother still uses an "old-school phone" and questioned how an 80-year-old would be expected to navigate digital payment methods.

Despite displaying several notices, the owner said customers continued to ask whether they could pay through PayNow.

"They can read the word 'only', but they'll still ask me, 'Can I PayNow you?'" she said.

"When you have to answer that dozens of times a day, how can you not get annoyed?"

Owner says cash is more reliable

The owner acknowledged that handling cash can be troublesome but said she considers it more reliable than contactless payments, which can be affected by technical issues.

She also raised concerns about what would happen if she needed to step away from the stall temporarily.

"If you urgently need to go to the toilet, will you [leave the stall unattended]?" she said.

The stall also does not serve "Di Luo" drinks as the owner felt that some of her customers may not be able to handle drinking espresso.

The TikTok post had garnered 455,700 views as of Thursday (Sept 17), with many commenters finding the signs "quite funny."

Some however, felt that with these restrictions, the stall owners are possibly "denying [themselves] from so many potential customers".

摊主告诉 Stomp，和她一起经营这家摊位的母亲不知道如何接受 PayNow 付款。

“她连自己的名字都写不出来，怎么会知道怎么用PayNow呢？”店主打趣道。

她补充说，她的母亲仍然在使用“老式手机”，并质疑如何才能让一位 80 岁的老人熟练使用数字支付方式。

尽管张贴了多张告示，店主表示顾客仍然不断询问是否可以通过 PayNow 付款。

“他们能看懂‘only’这个词，但他们还是会问我，‘我能用PayNow付款吗？’”她说。

“一天要回答几十遍这个问题，怎么可能不觉得烦呢？”

店主说现金更可靠

店主承认处理现金可能比较麻烦，但她认为现金支付比非接触式支付更可靠，因为非接触式支付可能会受到技术问题的影响。

她还提出了如果她需要暂时离开摊位会发生什么的担忧。

她问道：“如果你急需上厕所，你会（离开隔间吗？”

这家摊位也不供应“迪洛”饮料，因为老板觉得有些顾客可能无法接受喝浓缩咖啡。

截至周四（9 月 17 日），该 TikTok 帖子已获得 455,700 次观看，许多评论者认为这些标语“非常有趣”。

然而，有些人认为，这些限制可能会让摊主“失去很多潜在客户”。
