Sabah Marine Police seize untaxed cigarettes, liquor worth RM5.37m

The Region 4 Sabah Marine Police, in collaboration with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, seized untaxed cigarettes and liquor valued at nearly RM5.37 million during three raids in Sandakan and Kota Kinabalu.

The operations led to the arrest of a 45-year-old man and the confiscation of approximately 3.55 million sticks of smuggled cigarettes and 43,200 cans of liquor.

The case is being investigated under the Customs Act 1967, highlighting the effectiveness of intelligence sharing and inter-agency cooperation in combating smuggling activities.

The authorities plan to intensify enforcement operations to further curb the distribution of untaxed goods.

KOTA KINABALU, Sept 17 — The Region 4 Sabah Marine Police (PPM) seized untaxed cigarettes and liquor worth nearly RM5.37 million in three raids in Sandakan and Kota Kinabalu early this week.

In a statement today, Region 4 Sabah PPM said the first raid was conducted at an unregistered jetty along the Seguntur River in Sandakan at about 1.30 am on Sept 15 as part of a special joint operation with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), following intelligence gathering.

The operation resulted in the arrest of a 45-year-old man and the seizure of 1.82 million sticks of cigarettes of various brands believed to have been smuggled from a neighbouring country, with an estimated value of RM2.564 million.

Acting on information obtained following the arrest and seizure, the raiding team subsequently located another speedboat hidden among mangrove trees along the Seguntur River.

An inspection of the boat uncovered 1.73 million sticks of cigarettes of various brands, with an estimated seizure value of RM2.326 million.

Meanwhile, in a separate operation on September 14, Region 4 Sabah PPM raided an unnumbered warehouse in Kampung Dambai, Jalan Tuaran Bypass, and seized 43,200 cans of liquor suspected to be untaxed, valued at RM478,506.

The case is being investigated under Sections 135(1)(d) and 135(1)(e) of the Customs Act 1967.

According to the statement, Region 4 Sabah PPM recorded 61 cases under the Customs Act 1967 between January and September 15 this year, involving seizures worth RM8,386,812.61 and 40 arrests.

The force said the latest success reflected the effectiveness of intelligence sharing and strategic cooperation with the MACC in strengthening enforcement efforts and combating the smuggling and distribution of untaxed goods.

It said enforcement operations would continue to be intensified, with greater emphasis on information sharing and inter-agency cooperation to curb smuggling activities. — Bernama

沙巴第四区人民警察组织（PPM）今天发表声明称，9月15日凌晨1点30分左右，该组织与马来西亚反贪污委员会（MACC）联合开展了一次特别行动，突击搜查了山打根Seguntur河沿岸的一个未注册码头，这是在收集情报后进行的。

此次行动导致一名 45 岁男子被捕，并缴获 182 万支各种品牌的香烟，据信这些香烟是从邻国走私而来，估计价值 256.4 万令吉。

根据逮捕和查获行动中获得的信息，突击队随后在塞贡图尔河沿岸的红树林中发现了另一艘隐藏的快艇。

对这艘船的检查发现了 173 万支各种品牌的香烟，估计查获价值为 232.6 万令吉。

与此同时，在9月14日的另一次行动中，沙巴州第四警区警察突袭了位于斗亚兰绕道甘榜丹拜的一处无编号仓库，查获了43200罐疑似未缴税的酒类，价值478506令吉。

该案件正在根据 1967 年《海关法》第 135(1)(d) 条和第 135(1)(e) 条进行调查。

根据声明，沙巴州第四区海关执法局（Region 4 Sabah PPM）在今年1月至9月15日期间，根据1967年海关法令记录了61起案件，涉及查获价值8,386,812.61令吉的赃物，并逮捕了40人。

警方表示，此次成功反映了与马来西亚反贪污委员会在情报共享和战略合作方面的有效性，有助于加强执法力度，打击走私和分销未缴税货物。
