PUTRAJAYA, Sept 17 — Members of the public have described the issuance of the new-generation MyKad, equipped with 53 security features and rolled out today, as a positive improvement in terms of technology and security, while also strengthening identity protection.

The new-generation MyKad, issued by the National Registration Department (NRD), is the seventh-generation identity card and has been upgraded from 23 to 53 modern, secure features to meet current needs.

Nineteen-year-old student Puteri Nur Syafiqah Jailani said she was excited to receive the new-generation MyKad on the first day of its issuance, describing the replacement process at NRD as easy and fast.

“Actually, I did not know that the new MyKad would be issued today. When I arrived at NRD, I saw a notice about the new MyKad.

“I immediately called my mother and was excited to have it. The security features are definitely better, and I also saw the announcement about the improved security features on TikTok,” she said.

Speaking to reporters here, she advised the public to make an appointment before going to NRD to facilitate the MyKad replacement process.

“If we have made an appointment, the process of getting a queue number is faster and the waiting time is not long,” said Puteri Nur Syafiqah, who lives in Putrajaya.

Shaza Nuizeaan Shafie, 48, from Puchong, Selangor, said the process of replacing the MyKad with the new-generation version was very easy and that the new card was also more attractive.

She said she went to the Putrajaya NRD to apply for identity cards for her two children - Nur Ataa Iqra Abdul Wahab, 21, and Nur Amnaa Irbah, 12.

“I made an appointment for 9.50am but arrived early. Alhamdulillah, the process was indeed fast, and the new MyKad is also very attractive. It has several new security features, which are very good for protecting the identity of the cardholder,” she said.

Forty-seven-year-old Khairul Anuar Azizan, meanwhile, praised NRD staff for handling the issuance of the new-generation MyKad quickly and efficiently.

“The process was really quick, and we did not have to wait for a long time. Many are excited about this new MyKad,” he said.

Private-sector employee Foo Yew Jin, 36, said the new-generation MyKad looked more secure and had more enhanced safety features.

“The card looks sturdier, so it may be harder to break. Perhaps it will be further improved and have more functions in the future,” he said.

On Tuesday (September 15), Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail advised members of the public not to rush to replace their MyKad with the new version when applications opened today.

He said the replacement exercise for the new MyKad, which comes with about 50 additional security features, would be carried out in phases, while existing cards would remain valid for daily transactions.

Starting today, applications for the new-generation MyKad can be made at 40 NRD branches equipped with printing centres that can produce the cards on the same day.

At NRD branches without printing facilities, one can still apply for the new-generation MyKad, with the cards ready within five working days.

The new-generation MyKad incorporates security elements such as a Dynamic Security Hologram and Transparent Window on the front, as well as an Enforcement QR Code and a Dual-Interface Chip on the back. — Bernama

19岁的学生普特里·努尔·沙菲卡·贾拉尼表示，她很高兴在新一代身份证（MyKad）发行的第一天就收到了它，并称国民登记局的更换流程既简单又快捷。

“其实，我并不知道今天会发放新的身份证。我到国民登记局后，才看到关于新身份证的通知。”

“我立刻打电话给我妈妈，很高兴能拥有它。安全功能确实改进了，而且我还看到了TikTok上关于安全功能改进的公告，”她说。

她在接受记者采访时建议公众在前往国民登记局办理身份证更换手续前先进行预约。

“如果我们提前预约了，领取排队号码的过程会更快，等待时间也不会很长，”居住在布城的普特里·努尔·沙菲卡说道。

来自雪兰莪州蒲种的48岁的莎扎·努伊赞·沙菲表示，用新一代身份证替换旧身份证的过程非常容易，而且新卡也更具吸引力。

她说她去布城国民登记局为她的两个孩子——21岁的努尔·阿塔·伊克拉·阿卜杜勒·瓦哈卜和12岁的努尔·阿姆娜·伊尔巴——申请身份证。

“我预约的是上午9点50分，但我提前到了。感谢真主，整个过程确实很快，而且新的MyKad卡也非常吸引人。它有几项新的安全功能，对保护持卡人的身份信息非常有益，”她说。

与此同时，47 岁的 Khairul Anuar Azizan 称赞国民登记局工作人员快速高效地处理了新一代 MyKad 的签发工作。

“整个过程非常快捷，我们无需等待很长时间。很多人都对新的MyKad感到兴奋，”他说。

36岁的私营企业员工Foo Yew Jin表示，新一代MyKad看起来更安全，安全功能也更加完善。

周二（9月15日），内政部长拿督斯里赛夫丁·纳苏蒂安·伊斯梅尔建议公众不要急于在今天申请开放时更换旧版身份证。

他表示，新版MyKad新增了约50项安全功能，更换工作将分阶段进行，而现有卡片仍可用于日常交易。

从今天起，民众可以在40家国民登记局（NRD）分支机构申请新一代MyKad卡，这些分支机构配备了打印中心，可以当天制作出卡片。

在没有打印设施的国民登记局分行，人们仍然可以申请新一代MyKad，卡片将在五个工作日内制作完成。
