SCDF’s Public Warning System siren to sound on Sept 15

The signal will also be broadcast for 20 seconds on smartphones with the SGSecure mobile app installed.

SINGAPORE – An “Important Message” signal, which is meant to alert people to an important broadcast on the radio , will be sounded through the islandwide Public Warning System for a minute on Sept 15, at 6.20pm .

The signal will also be broadcast on smartphones that have the SGSecure mobile app installed, said the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) on Sept 3 . It will last for 20 seconds, and will be accompanied by a brief text message on the sounding of the Public Warning System.

For phones to receive the signal and the text message, the app’s notification and alert settings must be enabled.

Members of the public connected to the Singtel network will also receive an SG Alert on their mobile phones, SCDF said in a social media post.

During an emergency , SG Alert complements the Public Warning System by quickly alerting the public and providing information on actions to take, it added.

Upon hearing the signal , people should tune in immediately to any local radio or TV channel for a Total Defence message.

The annual sounding and broadcast message are part of the SCDF’s efforts to familiarise the public with the Public Warning System signals and to raise awareness on how the public should react upon hearing the signal, it said on its website.

The Public Warning System is used to warn of attacks from the air, land or sea, as well as natural and other man-made disasters, it added.

Each year, the siren goes off at 6.20pm on Total Defence Day on Feb 15, as well as on Sept 15 .

There was a one-off change in 2026 when the siren was sounded on Feb 1 instead, for the first time. That was done to remind Singaporeans that disruptions can occur at any time.

新加坡民防部队（SCDF）9月3日表示，安装了SGSecure手机应用程序的智能手机用户也将收到警报信号。警报信号持续20秒，并伴有简短的短信通知，告知公众警报系统启动。

要使手机能够接收信号和短信，必须启用应用程序的通知和提醒设置。

新加坡民防部队在社交媒体上发帖称，连接到新加坡电信网络的公众成员也将收到手机上的SG Alert警报。

SG Alert补充说，在紧急情况下，SG Alert可作为公共预警系统的补充，快速向公众发出警报并提供有关应采取的行动的信息。

听到信号后，人们应该立即收听当地的广播或收看电视频道，获取全民防卫信息。

新加坡民防部队在其网站上表示，每年鸣放警报和广播信息是民防部队为使公众熟悉公共预警系统信号并提高公众对听到信号后应如何应对的认识而采取的措施之一。

该机构补充说，公共预警系统用于预警来自空中、陆地或海上的袭击，以及自然灾害和其他人为灾害。

每年2月15日全民防卫日和9月15日，警报器都会在下午6点20分响起。

2026年曾出现过一次特殊情况，警报器首次改在2月1日鸣响。此举旨在提醒新加坡民众，突发事件随时可能发生。
