Teen TVET student found drowned after disappearing while crab hunting in Melaka

A 16-year-old student, Muhammad Arif Daniel Nizamuddin, was found drowned near Pulau Upeh after going missing while crabbing at a coastal reclamation area in Pantai Klebang, Melaka.

Fishermen discovered his body, which was later identified by family members and handed to police for further procedures.

Initial reports suggest he was swept away by strong waves while swimming.

His body was sent for a post-mortem at Melaka Hospital.

MELAKA, Sept 4 — A teenager, believed to have gone missing while looking for crabs in the coastal reclamation area near Pantai Klebang here, was found drowned late yesterday.

Melaka Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Assistant Director of Fire and Rescue Operations Division, Senior Fire Superintendent II Mohd Shahrom Laji, said Muhammad Arif Daniel Nizamuddin, 16, a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution student, was found near the waters of Pulau Upeh at about 7:20 pm yesterday.

“The victim was found by fishermen near Pulau Upeh, about two nautical miles from the mainland, before the Search and Rescue team went to the location to retrieve the victim’s body.

“Identification of the victim’s body was carried out by family members at approximately 8:30 pm before it was handed over to the police for further action,” he said in a statement here yesterday.

Meanwhile, Melaka Tengah District Police Chief ACP Halim Abas, when contacted, confirmed the discovery of the victim’s body.

He added that the victim’s body was sent to the Melaka Hospital Forensic Department, and a post-mortem is expected to be conducted today.

The media previously reported that the victim, who was the youngest of two siblings, was feared drowned while catching crabs in the coastal reclamation area near Pantai Klebang here Wednesday.

During the incident at around 3:00 pm, Muhammad Arif Daniel was believed to have been swept away by strong waves or stepped into a deeper area before going missing.

马六甲消防救援局（JBPM）消防救援行动部助理主任、二级高级消防主管莫哈末·沙赫罗姆·拉吉表示，16岁的穆罕默德·阿里夫·丹尼尔·尼扎姆丁是一名技术与职业教育培训（TVET）机构的学生，昨天晚上7点20分左右在乌贝岛附近的水域被发现。

“渔民在距离大陆约两海里的乌佩岛附近发现了受害者，之后搜救队前往该地点打捞受害者的遗体。

“受害者遗体的身份辨认工作于晚上8点30分左右由家属完成，之后遗体被移交给警方作进一步处理，”他昨天在此发表的一份声明中说。

与此同时，马六甲中部警区主任哈利姆·阿巴斯助理警监在接受采访时证实了受害者尸体的发现。

他还补充说，受害者的遗体已被送往马六甲医院法医部门，预计今天将进行尸检。

媒体此前报道称，受害者是家中两个孩子中最小的，据信他周三在班台克勒邦附近的沿海填海区捕蟹时溺水身亡。
