A 17-year-old Thai teenager was punched in the face after stopping to help a stranded foreigner and his Thai companion in Pattaya. Sarasin Pramoonpong had agreed to help search for their missing motorcycle key when the encounter suddenly turned violent. Police and rescue workers rushed to South Pattaya Road as the shirtless foreigner became highly agitated. Officers eventually took him to Pattaya City Police Station for questioning. However, reports said he refused to provide his name or nationality. Sarasin, who suffered facial injuries, later filed a formal assault complaint. The attack follows several other violent confrontations involving foreign visitors in Pattaya in recent months.

A 17-year-old Thai teenager stopped to help a stranded foreigner in Pattaya early Wednesday. Minutes later, he was nursing facial injuries after the man reportedly punched him without warning. Sarasin Pramoonpong told police he had only tried to assist the foreigner and his Thai companion. The pair had apparently lost a motorcycle key and were struggling beside South Pattaya Road.

Instead, the attempted favour ended with Sarasin injured and police racing to the scene. The shirtless foreigner was eventually taken to Pattaya City Police Station for questioning. Notably, police initially had neither his name nor nationality. Reports said the aggressive man refused to provide either detail.

The drama began at about 6 am on September 16. Police received a report of a brawl near the Baegadin restaurant on South Pattaya Road. The location lies in Moo 10, Nong Prue, Bang Lamung district, Chonburi. Police Lieutenant Yutthana Phosidi, deputy investigation inspector at Pattaya City Police Station, received the call.

In response, Police Lieutenant Yutthana coordinated with Sawang Boriboon Pattaya Foundation rescue workers. Police and rescuers then headed to the roadside location. There, they found 17-year-old Sarasin with injuries to his face. The teenager immediately told officers that a foreign man had punched him.

However, Sarasin had not been involved in the couple’s original dispute. Earlier, he had spotted the foreigner and a Thai woman pushing a motorcycle. Reports variously described the woman as his girlfriend, partner or wife. Apparently, the motorcycle key had gone missing and the pair were struggling with the machine.

The couple subsequently pushed the motorcycle towards a nearby convenience store. The foreigner then left the machine there. Afterwards, he and the woman continued walking towards the South Pattaya entrance. Sarasin noticed their predicament and decided to see whether they needed assistance.

Meanwhile, rescue workers were also nearby. Sarasin followed the pair on his motorcycle as he attempted to find out what was wrong. He subsequently discovered that the couple were arguing about the missing key. The Thai woman then explained their problem directly to him.

At that point, she asked Sarasin for help. Specifically, she wanted him to take her back to the motorcycle. The woman hoped to search again for the missing key. Sarasin agreed and transported her back towards the machine.

Yet the simple favour suddenly turned violent. After returning, Sarasin said the Thai woman spoke to her foreign companion. He did not understand what she said. Nor could he identify anything he had done to provoke what followed.

Seconds later, according to Sarasin, the foreigner suddenly turned towards him. The man then punched the teenager directly in the face. The blow left Sarasin injured and confused. Crucially, he said he had no idea what had prompted the attack.

“I only wanted to help,” Sarasin told reporters afterwards.

By then, the confrontation had attracted other people in the area. Police and rescue personnel moved to contain the situation. Reports described the foreign man as highly agitated and acting aggressively. Furthermore, several delivery riders and motorcycle riders reportedly became involved as the scene intensified.

Eventually, those at the scene helped bring the situation under control. Police then secured the foreigner and removed him from the roadside. Officers took him to Pattaya City Police Station to de-escalate the confrontation. They also wanted to question him about Sarasin’s injuries.

However, another problem quickly emerged. Police apparently did not know who the foreigner was. Initial reports described him as Caucasian and aged around 30. Nevertheless, neither his identity nor nationality had been publicly established.

Moreover, reports said the man refused to provide officers with his name or nationality. Consequently, investigators faced the additional task of establishing his identity. No passport nationality was confirmed in the initial reports. Police therefore had no publicly established nationality for the man.

Separately, Sarasin filed a formal assault complaint with Pattaya City Police. His facial injuries became part of the investigation. Officers also began reconstructing the events surrounding the confrontation. Several people were reportedly present during different stages of the incident.

Importantly, rescue workers were already in the area when Sarasin became involved. Delivery riders and motorcycle riders also reportedly witnessed or joined the later intervention. Investigators therefore had several potential witnesses while examining Sarasin’s account.

The missing motorcycle key remained central to the sequence described by the teenager. Initially, Sarasin had no connection with the foreigner or Thai woman. He simply saw them pushing their motorcycle and realised something was wrong. He then watched them leave the machine at the convenience store.

Afterwards, the couple continued towards the South Pattaya entrance on foot. Sarasin decided to follow because he wanted to offer assistance. The Thai woman subsequently accepted his help. Indeed, she directly asked him to transport her back to the motorcycle.

Accordingly, Sarasin took the woman back so she could search for the key. However, events changed almost immediately after they returned. She said something to her foreign companion. Sarasin did not understand their conversation.

Without warning, he said, the foreign man turned and punched him. The teenager suffered facial injuries from the blow. Meanwhile, the foreigner’s behaviour reportedly became increasingly aggressive. Police, rescuers and people nearby then intervened.

Ultimately, officers brought the roadside confrontation under control. The foreign man was taken away for questioning at Pattaya City Police Station. Sarasin remained at the scene and was able to give investigators his account. He later proceeded with his formal assault complaint.

At that stage, police had announced no criminal charge against the foreigner. Nor had they disclosed any subsequent legal penalty. Instead, investigators planned to question those involved and gather evidence. They would then proceed according to legal procedures.

Wednesday’s confrontation follows several other violent incidents involving foreign visitors in Pattaya. In June, Thai men reportedly intervened during an altercation between a Swedish man and his Thai girlfriend. Initially, the dispute involved the couple. However, the Swedish man reportedly turned his attention towards the Thai men after they intervened.

Consequently, that dispute developed into a wider confrontation. Another case involving foreign nationals was reported in Pattaya during the same month. This time, two foreigners reportedly attacked a Thai motorcycle taxi rider following a parking dispute.

The motorcycle taxi rider had asked the pair to move their motorcycles from a prohibited parking area. However, the encounter then turned violent. The two foreigners reportedly attacked the rider following his request.

Wednesday’s South Pattaya case had a different starting point. Sarasin was not challenging the foreigner over parking. Neither was he attempting to settle the couple’s argument. Instead, according to his complaint, he was responding to their practical difficulty.

First, he saw the couple pushing their motorcycle towards the convenience store. Next, he saw them leave it there and continue walking. Sarasin then followed because he thought they might need help. Subsequently, the Thai woman confirmed they were searching for a missing key.

As part of that effort, she asked Sarasin to take her back to the motorcycle. The teenager agreed and gave her the requested lift. Moments later, he said, her foreign companion punched him in the face.

The blow triggered the larger roadside confrontation. Rescue workers, riders and police became involved as the foreigner remained agitated. Eventually, officers removed him from South Pattaya Road and transported him to the police station.

In parallel, investigators had Sarasin’s account and a formal complaint. They also had his facial injuries to document. Additionally, several people reportedly witnessed portions of the confrontation. Police were therefore gathering accounts as they reconstructed what happened.

The early hour had not left investigators without potential witnesses. The incident unfolded on South Pattaya Road as several riders and rescue personnel were nearby. Police Lieutenant Yutthana received the report at approximately 6 am and quickly coordinated the response.

When officers and rescuers reached the scene, Sarasin was already injured. He then traced the incident from the missing key through to the punch. His account began with the couple pushing their motorcycle and ended with the foreigner striking him.

For police, the inquiry also involved establishing exactly who the foreign man was. Initial reports provided no confirmed name or nationality. Furthermore, he reportedly refused to provide either detail after officers intervened.

Investigators were therefore questioning the man while gathering evidence surrounding Sarasin’s complaint. No charge had been publicly confirmed in the initial reports. Likewise, police had not announced any legal penalty.

Meanwhile, Sarasin remained clear about why he became involved. He saw a couple struggling with a motorcycle problem and decided to assist them. The Thai woman then directly asked him for help.

Minutes later, according to his complaint, her foreign companion punched him in the face.
