N.K. leader's sister condemns U.S. maritime exercise, calls it 'war rehearsal'

SEOUL, Sept. 18 (Yonhap) -- Kim Yo-jong, the powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, on Friday condemned a U.S.-led multinational maritime exercise, calling it a "war rehearsal."

She made the remarks in a statement carried by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), as the U.S. Navy kicked off the Pacific Vanguard exercise on Aug. 30 near Guam, involving maritime forces from South Korea, Australia, Canada, Japan and New Zealand.

"During the war rehearsal, various naval training for U.S.-centered anti-warship, anti-air and anti-submarine warfare was staged intensively for more than ten days," Kim said. "This was another threatening 'war game' invented by the U.S. for inter-camp confrontation in the region."

"This is a part of the U.S. political and military design to prolong its hegemony by relying on the military strength of the exclusive camp in the Asia-Pacific region where there are many big powers regarded as its major rivals," she added.

首尔，9月18日（韩联社）——朝鲜领导人金正恩的妹妹金与正周五谴责了美国主导的多国海上联合演习，称其为“战争演习”。

她在朝鲜中央通讯社（朝中社）发布的一份声明中发表了上述言论。此前，美国海军于8月30日在关岛附近启动了“太平洋先锋”演习，韩国、澳大利亚、加拿大、日本和新西兰的海上力量均参与了此次演习。

金说：“在这次战争演习中，以美国为中心的各种反舰、防空和反潜作战的海军训练密集进行了十多天。这是美国为了在该地区制造阵营对抗而炮制的又一次具有威胁性的‘战争游戏’。”

她补充说：“这是美国政治和军事计划的一部分，旨在依靠亚太地区排他阵营的军事实力来延长其霸权，而亚太地区有很多被视为其主要竞争对手的大国。”
