SEOUL, Sept. 18 (Yonhap) -- The finance minister on Friday vowed to make diplomatic efforts and diversify import sources to address recent energy price volatility amid geopolitical uncertainties in the Middle East.

Finance Minister Koo Yun-cheol made the remarks during a meeting of economy-related ministers in the central city of Sejong, pointing out that global oil prices have recently risen sharply amid geopolitical tensions.

"The government intends to remain vigilant and maintain an emergency response system to stably manage the supply of energy sources and their prices," Koo said during the meeting.

Koo added that the energy supply is expected to remain stable for the time being due to the government's proactive diplomatic efforts, diversification of import sources and a strategic swap of oil reserves.

"We will operate a monitoring team with the oil refining industry to check the supply of crude oil on a daily basis and take necessary measures promptly," the finance minister said.

During the meeting, the government said the country will extend its fuel tax cut scheme by another two months through November to ease price burdens on the public amid protracted tensions in the Middle East.

South Korea will also cooperate with gas stations at major highways across the country to offer a discount of 100 won (US$0.07) per liter over the Chuseok holiday, which runs from Sept. 24-27, compared with Thursday's prices.

The meeting was Koo's last before stepping down as finance minister.

首尔，9月18日（韩联社）——韩国财政部长周五誓言，将通过外交努力和进口来源多元化来应对近期中东地缘政治不确定性导致的能源价格波动。

财政部长具允哲在世宗市举行的经济相关部长会议上发表了上述言论，他指出，由于地缘政治紧张局势，全球石油价格最近大幅上涨。

Koo在会议上表示：“政府打算保持警惕，并维持应急响应系统，以稳定管理能源供应及其价格。”

Koo补充说，由于政府积极的外交努力、进口来源多元化以及石油储备的战略性互换，预计能源供应在短期内将保持稳定。

财政部长表示：“我们将与炼油行业合作，成立一个监测小组，每天检查原油供应情况，并及时采取必要措施。”

会议期间，政府表示，鉴于中东地区持续紧张局势，为减轻民众的价格负担，该国将把燃油税减免计划再延长两个月至11月。

韩国还将与全国主要高速公路上的加油站合作，在9月24日至27日的中秋节假期期间，每升汽油价格比周四的价格优惠100韩元（0.07美元）。

这是具荷在卸任财政部长前最后一次出席会议。
