SINGAPORE – US-based Waymo will begin offering rides in its self-driving vehicles in Singapore in 2028.
The unit of Google parent Alphabet announced its entry into Singapore on Sept 18 at the tech giant’s Asia-Pacific headquarters in Alexandra.
Singapore marks Waymo’s first foray into the South-east Asian market. It is the second Asian city where the autonomous vehicles will operate, following a planned rollout in the Japanese capital Tokyo in 2027.
Waymo said its initial fleet of Jaguar I-PACE vehicles will arrive in the coming months, at which point trained autonomous specialists will drive them manually to familiarise the vehicles with local roads and conditions.
