27 motorists were caught for traffic offences at Woodlands Checkpoint during the September school holidays, including queue cutting and crossing double white lines.

16 vehicles leaving Singapore were forced to make U-turns, and 8 foreign-registered drivers were banned from entering the country.

The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority increased enforcement to ensure safety and warned of firm actions against traffic law violators at checkpoints.

SINGAPORE – The September school holidays saw more than just vacation crowds at Woodlands Checkpoint , with 27 motorists caught for traffic offences such as queue-cutting and other dangerous road behaviour at the border crossing.

Between Sept 4 and Sept 13, a total of 16 vehicles departing Singapore were told to make U-turns to rejoin queues, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said on Sept 18.

In addition, eight drivers of foreign-registered vehicles departing Singapore were banned from entering the country after crossing double white lines and cutting queues.

Of these, 16 motorists were referred to the Traffic Police for further action.

During this period, another three motorists arriving in Singapore were caught cutting queues and crossing double white lines.

The 27 motorists were caught amid stepped-up enforcement operations by the ICA at the checkpoint to detect motorists who had committed traffic offences and deter others from doing so.

“ICA takes a very serious stance against motorists who violate traffic laws or do not comply with our officers’ instructions at the checkpoints, compromising the safety of other motorists,” said the agency.

“We will not hesitate to take firm actions against them.”

Travellers are advised to cooperate with ICA officers, comply with traffic laws and maintain lane discipline when using land checkpoints, the authority added.

Earlier on Aug 31, ICA issued a statement warning travellers to expect heavy traffic and longer waiting times at land checkpoints from Sept 4 to Sept 10 amid the upcoming September school holidays.

“ICA对违反交通法规或不服从检查站工作人员指示、危及其他驾驶者安全的驾驶者采取非常严肃的态度，”该机构表示。

“我们将毫不犹豫地对他们采取强硬措施。”

该机构补充说，建议旅客在使用陆路检查站时，应配合移民与关卡局官员，遵守交通法规，并保持车道秩序。

8月31日早些时候，移民与关卡局（ICA）发布声明，警告旅客在即将到来的9月学校假期期间（9月4日至9月10日），陆路关卡预计会出现交通拥堵和等待时间延长的情况。
