Hindu fire-walking festival to be live-streamed on YouTube and Facebook

SINGAPORE – The Hindu Endowments Board (HEB) on Sept 18 urged devotees to watch the live-stream of the upcoming Hindu fire-walking festival on its social media platforms.

The annual festival, also known as theemithi vizha , will take place on Nov 1 at Sri Mariamman Temple located at 244 South Bridge Road.

The live-stream of the procession will be broadcast on HEB’s YouTube and Facebook channels on that day .

In a statement on Sept 18, the board said that devotees who wish to take part in the paalkudam , angaprathachanam and kumbiduthandam rituals, or walk on or around the fire pit , must register at https://heb.org.sg .

Online registration opens on Sept 24 and will close on Oct 31 at 11pm. The three rituals can be performed from Oct 17, with HEB saying devotees must read the conditions for participation in the festival before booking their preferred religious services and time slots.

They may also contact the Sri Mariamman Temple’s office on 6223 4064 for enquiries.

There will be no direct walk-in ticket sales at the temple for participation in the rituals, the board added.

The three-month-long festival begins with kodiyetram , or festival flag hoisting, on Aug 17.

The devotees perform the rituals to fulfil vows they have made.

The paalkudam ceremony involves carrying milk pots as an act of devotion.

During the angaprathachanam , devotees lie on the ground with their arms outstretched in prayer, and roll around the temple premises.

To perform the kumbiduthandam , devotees walk around the temple premises, prostrating in prayer every three steps.

On Nov 1, the foot procession for male participants walking on the fire pit will start from Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple in Serangoon Road and end at Sri Mariamman Temple.

新加坡——印度教捐赠委员会（HEB）于9月18日敦促信徒们在其社交媒体平台上观看即将举行的印度教火祭节的直播。

一年一度的节日，又称 theemithi vizha，将于 11 月 1 日在位于南桥路 244 号的 Sri Mariamman 寺庙举行。

游行队伍的现场直播将于当天在 HEB 的 YouTube 和 Facebook 频道播出。

9 月 18 日，该委员会发表声明称，希望参加 paalkudam、angaprathachanam 和 kumbiduthandam 仪式或在火坑上或周围行走的信徒必须在 https://heb.org.sg 注册。

网上报名将于9月24日开放，10月31日晚上11点截止。三项仪式可于10月17日起举行。HEB表示，信徒在预订心仪的宗教服务和时间段之前，必须阅读参与节日的相关规定。

他们也可以致电 6223 4064 联系斯里玛丽安曼神庙办公室进行咨询。

委员会补充说，寺庙不会直接出售参与仪式的门票。

为期三个月的节日于 8 月 17 日以升起节日旗帜（kodiyetram）拉开帷幕。

信徒们举行这些仪式是为了履行他们许下的誓言。

paalkudam 仪式包括携带牛奶罐以示虔诚。

在angaprathachanam仪式期间，信徒们躺在地上，双臂伸展祈祷，并在寺庙内翻滚。

进行 kumbiduthandam 仪式时，信徒们绕着寺庙走一圈，每走三步就跪拜祈祷。

11月1日，男性参与者将举行火坑游行，从实龙岗路的斯里尼瓦沙佩鲁马尔庙出发，终点为马里安曼庙。
