Lee approves appointment of new Supreme Court justice

SEOUL, Sept. 18 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Jae Myung on Friday approved the appointment of Kim Sung-soo as a new Supreme Court justice, his office said.

Lee's approval comes a day after the National Assembly passed a motion for Kim's confirmation in a 227-28 vote, following a confirmation hearing earlier in the week.

Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae last month recommended Kim to the president for appointment as the successor to former Supreme Court Justice Lee Heung-ku.

Kim will become the first Supreme Court justice to take office since the launch of the Lee administration last year.

首尔，9月18日（韩联社）——韩国总统李在明办公室周五表示，总统已批准任命金成洙为最高法院新任法官。

在国会以 227 比 28 的投票结果通过金正恩的任命确认动议后，李明博的任命获得通过。此前，国会于本周早些时候举行了确认听证会。

最高法院首席大法官赵熙大上个月向总统推荐金某接替前最高法院大法官李兴九。

金大贤将成为李明博政府去年上任以来首位就职的最高法院大法官。
