Police raid Scotts Road shops, seize over 900 suspected counterfeit luxury goods worth $180,000

The police conducted simultaneous raids at two retail shops in a shopping mall along Scotts Road on Wednesday (Sept 16), arresting two women for their suspected involvement in the sale of counterfeit goods.

In a news release on Friday evening, the police said that the women are aged 39 and 54.

The raid, conducted by officers from the police's Criminal Investigation Department, resulted in the seizure of more than 900 trademark-infringing goods comprising luxury bags, watches, apparel, footwear and accessories.

According to the police, the estimated street value of the items seized amounted to more than $180,000.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Those found guilty of possessing goods with falsely applied trademarks for the purpose of trade could be fined up to $100,000, jailed for up to five years, or both.

The police said they take a serious view of intellectual property rights infringement, and reminded the public that the distribution and sale of counterfeit goods are serious offences.

"The Police will not hesitate to take tough action against those who profit at the expense of legitimate businesses and consumers."
