Yoga Inc.'s abrupt closure leaves instructors, customers in limbo

Yoga Inc. ceased operations abruptly on Friday (Sept 18), closing its two remaining studios at Punggol and Tampines.

Over 30 yoga instructors are owed wages and a number of customers who recently purchased packages are unable to get refunds, Lianhe Zaobao reported.

A freelance yoga instructor surnamed Liu, who has been working with Yoga Inc. for over a decade, told Zaobao he was only notified about the company's closure on Friday via text message.

The message read: "I know that this news is difficult to accept and heartbreaking for many of us. I'm sorry to all those affected by this sudden change."

According to Liu, Yoga Inc's 32 instructors are typically paid on the 15th of each month but they have yet to receive payment.

They have reported the matter to the Ministry of Manpower.

Yoga Inc. also closed its studios in Tanjong Pagar and Bedok in June and August, allowing customers to continue taking classes in their outlets at Punggol and Tampines.

"The closure is a business decision but it is unfair to the members. They were still selling packages in July," Liu said.

A customer named Janice told the Chinese daily that she has been taking classes at Yoga Inc. in Our Tampines Hub since 2024, and recently paid $300 for 10 more classes.

On Friday, the yoga studio's receptionist informed Janice of the closure.

"I was stunned to hear that. I knew about other yoga studios' recent closures, but never thought I would be similarly affected," she said.

Safra Punggol announced Yoga Inc.'s closure in an Instagram post on Friday, citing "operational issues".

Checks done by AsiaOne on the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority's BizFile records show that Yoga Inc. Pte. Ltd. has been struck off the register.

The company's Instagram account is inactive. While its Facebook account is still accessible, the last post was made in 2025.

Yoga Inc's closure comes shortly after the closure of all True Fitness and True Yoga outlets in Singapore .
