Thumbprints give her away: Woman gets four months’ jail for presenting fake MyKad at Sabah NRD

A 55-year-old woman, Jamilah Akrim, was sentenced to four months in jail after being found guilty of possessing a fake identity card at the Sabah National Registration Department.

The fraudulent card was discovered when she attempted to replace it, as it was not recorded in the department's system and her thumbprints did not match any existing records.

Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus convicted her under Regulation 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990.

Upon completing her sentence, Jamilah is to be referred to the Immigration Department for further actions.

KOTA KINABALU, Sept 19 — A 55-year-old woman who went to the Sabah National Registration Department (NRD) to replace her identity card ended up being arrested after the card was found to be fake.

Jamilah Akrim was sentenced to four months’ jail by Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus after pleading guilty to possessing the fake identity card at the Sabah NRD Identity Card Division at about 11.30am on Sept 10.

The court also ordered Jamilah to be referred to the Immigration Department for further action upon completing her sentence.

The court heard that Jamilah presented the card when seeking a replacement, but checks by NRD officers found it did not exist in the department’s records, while her thumbprints also did not match any records in the system.

She was charged under Regulation 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 (Amendment 2007), which carries up to three years’ jail or a fine of up to RM20,000, or both, upon conviction. — Daily Express

一名 55 岁的女子贾米拉·阿克里姆 (Jamilah Akrim) 因在沙巴国民登记局持有伪造身份证而被判处四个月监禁。
