Loke resigns as Transport Minister, DAP stays in Anwar’s government after Najib’s conditional pardon

Anthony Loke Siew Fook announced his resignation as Transport Minister in Malaysia's Pakatan Harapan-led unity government following the conditional pardon of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Despite stepping down, Loke emphasized that the Democratic Action Party (DAP) will continue to support the unity government to maintain its stability.

He will remain the party's secretary-general, a position he has held since March 2022.

These developments were disclosed after a nearly three-hour emergency central executive committee meeting at the DAP headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 — Anthony Loke Siew Fook will step down from his position as Transport Minister in the Pakatan Harapan-led unity government following the conditional pardon granted to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

However, he said DAP will remain in the unity government to prevent it from being toppled.

Loke made the announcement today to reporters after chairing DAP’s emergency central executive committee (CEC) meeting at the party headquarters in Pudu today.

The meeting, which began at 3.30pm, lasted for nearly three hours.

Loke also stated that will continue as the party’s secretary-general since March 2022.
