Israeli attacks kill four Palestinians including son of Gaza’s health chief

At least four Palestinians, including a child and the son of Gaza’s health chief, have been killed in a wave of Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip.

Three people were killed in Israeli attacks on Saturday while one died of injuries sustained in an attack on Friday, medical sources told Al Jazeera.

An Israeli drone struck a civilian vehicle in the Sheikh Radwan market area of Gaza City on Saturday, killing one person and wounding at least four, including two children, Gaza’s civil defence agency said.

The vehicle caught fire and burned for an extended period before rescue crews could extinguish it, with one body arriving at al-Shifa Medical Complex burned beyond recognition.

“The vehicle was targeted by at least one drone missile. The fire just engulfed the vehicle for at least half an hour until the ambulance, the paramedics, or the civil defence crew had to be called up,” said Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud, reporting from Gaza City. He added that the body was “charred completely”.

Mahmoud said Israeli reconnaissance aircraft, attack drones and quadcopters had been hovering “at a very dangerous low level” across the Strip since the morning.

Earlier in the day, in Jabalia in northern Gaza, an Israeli drone strike killed Basir al-Bursh, the eldest son of Gaza’s Ministry of Health director-general, Munir al-Bursh, in the az-Zahra neighbourhood west of the refugee camp, and seriously wounded another person.

Basir al-Bursh was rushed to hospital already having lost significant blood, and was pronounced dead on arrival.

In video obtained by Al Jazeera, Munir al-Bursh was seen carrying his son’s body, wrapped in a blanket, with other mourners as it was rushed to hospital by ambulance.

“We were together side by side,” said al-Bursh in the video. “He [Basir] told me, ‘The Israelis are targeting both of us’. I replied, ‘Good, at least we will go to heaven together’ … As soon as he stepped out of the tent, he was killed.”

According to Mahmoud, the strike hit while students were attending classes at alternative learning spaces set up by local organisations behind a field hospital in the area. “He was leaving the tent when he was struck by a drone missile directly,” our correspondent said, describing the scene as “quite graphic”.

The Health Ministry said its leadership and staff “extend their deepest condolences and most sincere sympathies to our esteemed brother and dear colleague Dr Munir Abdullah al-Bursh on the martyrdom of his dutiful eldest son, the young man [Basir]”.

Mahmoud noted that there has been no statement so far from Israeli authorities explaining the strike, saying that such attacks on the families of officials are usually followed by an Israeli justification.

Also on Saturday, one person was killed when Israeli forces struck the Shujayea neighbourhood, east of Gaza City, according to a source in the ambulance and emergency services speaking to Al Jazeera.

A Palestinian girl also succumbed to her injuries sustained a day earlier in Israeli gunfire north of the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir el-Balah announced.

The same hospital said a woman and another person were wounded by Israeli gunfire east of the Maghazi refugee camp, also in central Gaza.

Hamas said on Saturday that its political chief, Khalil al-Hayya, had held calls with regional mediators over Israel’s intensified strikes on Gaza and its escalating violence in the occupied West Bank.

Last month, key mediator countries Qatar, Egypt and Turkiye issued a joint statement condemning “the ongoing Israeli violations in the Gaza Strip”.

Hundreds killed since ‘ceasefire’

Israeli attacks on the besieged enclave have killed at least 1,390 people since a US-brokered “ceasefire” between Israel and Hamas was announced in October 2025.

Israel has killed more than 73,910 people and wounded 174,914 since the start of its genocidal war against Palestinians in Gaza in October 2023.

Last month, UNICEF, the UN children’s agency, said that, on average, one child is killed a day in Gaza by Israel.

Palestinian families are now confined to about a third of the enclave, sheltering among destroyed buildings, rubble and uncleared waste, the agency said.

自“停火”以来已有数百人丧生

自2025年10月美国斡旋以色列和哈马斯宣布“停火”以来，以色列对被围困飞地的袭击已造成至少1390人死亡。
