DAP sec-gen’s Cabinet quit offer over Najib house arrest is his own call, says Umno veep Khaled Nordin

Anthony Loke's offer to resign as Transport Minister is a personal decision following the conditional pardon granted to former Prime Minister Najib Razak, according to UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

Loke's resignation proposal is DAP's response to Najib being allowed to serve his remaining sentence under house arrest, although other DAP ministers will remain in the unity government to ensure political stability.

Khaled emphasized that Najib's pardon falls under the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's constitutional rights, a decision respected by UMNO.

Najib's conditional pardon reduces his imprisonment, requiring a RM50 million fine, while the remainder of his sentence will be served under house arrest.

KOTA TINGGI, Sept 20 — Anthony Loke’s offer to resign as Transport Minister following former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s conditional pardon is entirely his own matter, Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said today.

Loke offered to resign yesterday after DAP’s central executive committee meeting, saying the move was the party’s response to the decision allowing Najib to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest, while other DAP ministers would remain in the unity government to maintain political stability.

“From Umno’s perspective, that is his matter. Whether he wants to resign or not, that is his matter,” The Star quoted Khaled as replying to reporters after attending a Maulidur Rasul celebration at Felda Air Tawar 2 here.

Khaled, who is also defence minister, said Loke’s resignation offer should not be confused with the decision involving Najib.

Khaled reiterated that the decision to grant Najib a conditional pardon and allow him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest was within the constitutional prerogative of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

He said Umno welcomed the decision and would respect the authority exercised by the King.

Loke said yesterday that DAP respected the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s power to grant pardons but had its own position on Najib’s conditional pardon, which he said was difficult for the party to accept.

He said only he would offer to resign, while the other DAP ministers and deputy ministers would remain in government to ensure political stability.

Najib was granted a conditional pardon last Friday allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028, subject to payment of a RM50 million fine.

He has been serving a six-year prison sentence at Kajang Prison since August 2022 after the Federal Court upheld his conviction and 12-year jail term for misappropriating RM42 million from SRC International, with the sentence and fine later reduced by the Pardons Board in 2024.

哈立德重申，给予纳吉布有条件赦免并允许他居家监禁服完剩余刑期的决定，属于最高元首的宪法特权。

他表示，巫统欢迎这一决定，并将尊重国王行使的权力。

陆兆福昨天表示，民主行动党尊重最高元首赦免的权力，但对纳吉的有条件赦免有自己的立场，他说该党很难接受这一赦免。

他表示只有他一人愿意辞职，而其他民主行动党部长和副部长将继续留在政府，以确保政治稳定。

纳吉布上周五获得有条件赦免，获准在家监禁至2028年8月23日，但需缴纳5000万令吉的罚款。

自 2022 年 8 月以来，他一直在加影监狱服刑六年，此前联邦法院维持了对他的定罪和 12 年监禁判决，罪名是挪用 SRC 国际公司 4200 万令吉。2024 年，赦免委员会减少了他的刑期和罚款。

冼都警区主任：警方将于明日起在纳吉布的朗格杜塔官邸附近部署流动警务站；监狱部门将负责监控工作。
