Prisons Dept says implementation of Najib’s conditional pardon will follow law and SOPs

The Malaysian Prisons Department is prepared to enforce any official directives from the Pardons Board regarding Najib Razak's conditional pardon.

It will execute decisions with integrity and professionalism, adhering to legal provisions and current procedures.

Najib's conditional pardon allows house arrest until August 2028, contingent on a RM50 million fine, as consented by the King of Malaysia.

=KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 — The Malaysian Prisons Department is ready to implement any official instructions regarding the decision of the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya on the conditional pardon for former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

It said that any official notification and documents relating to the Pardons Board’s decision would be conveyed through the proper channels before being submitted to the department for further action.

“The Malaysian Prisons Department is always ready to implement any official instructions received from the relevant authorities, in accordance with the provisions of the law, prison regulations as well as rules and procedures currently in force,” it said in a statement today.

The department said it would implement the decisions and instructions received in an orderly and professional manner and with integrity, in accordance with the provisions of the law and the rulings of the relevant authorities.

It also urged all parties to refer to official sources and refrain from speculation regarding the implementation of the decision.

Yesterday, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail was reported to have said that the Prisons Department was still awaiting an official letter notifying it of the matter.

He said the Prisons Department needed to review the official notification to ensure the decision is implemented under existing laws.

Based on a statement by the Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) of the Prime Minister’s Department, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, had consented to granting a conditional pardon to Najib by allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to the payment of a RM50 million fine. — Bernama

据报道，内政部长拿督斯里赛夫丁·纳苏蒂安·伊斯梅尔昨天表示，监狱部门仍在等待正式信函通知此事。

他表示，监狱部门需要审查正式通知，以确保该决定在现行法律框架内得到执行。
