Mahatthana Ampornphisit Managing Director of the Government Housing Bank (GH Bank) revealed that GHB is launching a green loan project using its own liquidity—without government interest subsidies—to support residential solar rooftop installations. Offering loan amounts between 100,000 and 150,000 Baht for 5 kW systems, the scheme features attractive interest rates and a 7-year repayment period with monthly installments of around 1,000 Baht, which is offset by average monthly solar power generation and grid sell-backs worth roughly 1,600 Baht.

To streamline approval without collateral, GHB will evaluate applicants based on 1–2 years of electricity payment history from PEA or MEA; eligible candidates must own the residential property meter, maintain consistent payment records, and average monthly power bills of at least 2,000–3,000 Baht.

Thai Chuay Thai Plus scheme to be extended by 2-months

Thailand’s Finance Ministry is preparing to seek Cabinet approval on September 22, 2026, for an extension of the “Thais Chuay Thais Plus” co-payment scheme, which is currently set to expire on September 30.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Lalida Persvivatana reported that cumulative spending under the program reached 161.56 billion Baht as of September 18—comprising 92.9 billion Baht in government funds and 68.65 billion Baht in consumer spending—benefiting over 26 million people and nearly 1.2 million verified merchants.

Previously, Government Spokesman Ekkaphop Pianpises revealed that he had spoken with Ekniti Nitithanprapas Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance regarding the scheme. The report highlights key issues such as the Election Commission’s (EC) inconsistent exercise of discretion and operational delays, as well as concerns regarding its legitimacy and connection to the public.

Key reform proposals include restructuring the EC to ensure public accountability through parliamentary approval; appointing a tripartite selection committee; lowering the minimum age for EC commissioners to 35; separating administrative functions from oversight duties to prevent the EC from policing itself; empowering Parliament to remove commissioners by a majority vote; and allowing members of the general public—rather than local government officials—to serve as polling station committee members in order to reduce political influence.

On September 20, the Election Commission (EC) disclosed details regarding its September 14, 2026 rulings on the 2024 Senate election inquiries. The investigations specifically targeted violations under Sections 3 through 7 of the Organic Act on the Acquisition of Senators.

The charges reviewed include non-compliance with EC self-introduction rules (Charge 3), offering or promising financial and other benefits to influence voters (Charge 4), hosting or agreeing to host entertainment and meals (Charge 5), requesting or receiving assets to run or abstain from running for candidacy (Charge 6), and accepting or agreeing to accept payments or benefits to vote or withhold votes for specific candidates (Charge 7).

On September 20, the election for the Chief Executive of the Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO) took place across 1,450 polling stations covering six districts.

There were 1,075,971 eligible voters and six candidates vying for the position. As of 10:00 PM, with 94.5% of the votes officially counted, Naruephon Yenprasert (Candidate No. 1)—nephew of former head Thongchai Yenprasert and representing the Phueng Luang group—was leading with 182,310 votes. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is facing criticism from People’s Party MP Rukchanok Srinok after Parliament’s website revealed he had already declined to endorse a draft bill removing snooker and billiards from Gambling Act restrictions, contradicting his earlier claim that the bill was still under consideration.

Rukchanok suggested that Anutin either signed the rejection without reading it or allowed someone else to sign on his behalf. Two territorial defence volunteers, Volunteer Irin Kaewrawang and Volunteer Nattanan Kaewsupo , were killed and 16 injured when suspected insurgents bombed their six-wheel truck and opened fire in Sukhirin district, Narathiwat, on September 18. Security forces reported that four operational leaders active in Rangae, Chanae/Cho-airong, and Sukhirin districts carried out the ambush in retaliation for the deaths of two insurgents killed in a mountain clash on September 9.

Relevant agencies have provided initial financial aid of 1,079,400 Baht to each victim’s family, along with educational scholarships, monthly allowances, and special civil service recruitment rights for their heirs. Police are gathering evidence to track down and prosecute the four suspects.

Meanwhile two of five defendants pleaded guilty to attempted murder in the March 20, 2026 shooting of Prachachat Party MP Kamonsak Leewamoh, which seriously injured two of his security detail, while the remaining three denied all charges to contest the case. The accused—comprising soldiers and former marines—allegedly used government-issued firearms and a Narathiwat Internal Security Operations Command vehicle during the attack.

A fire broke out yesterday afternoon along the railway line between Tao Poon and Bang Pho stations, necessitating the suspension of service across five stations—from Bang O to Kamphaeng Phet. Preliminary assessments attribute the incident to an electrical arc (short circuit) on the power rail, potentially caused by moisture accumulation from continuous rainfall.
