LOS ANGELES, Sept 21 — Presley Gerber, the son of model Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, died on Sunday at the age of 27, according to records from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
People magazine reported that Gerber died at a rehabilitation facility, citing medical examiner records, while TMZ was the first to report his death.
A representative for Crawford, Rande and Presley’s sister, model and actress Kaia Gerber, told People : “The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time.”
An autopsy had not been completed, TMZ reported.
Born in Beverly Hills, California, in 1999, Presley followed his mother into modelling and was signed by IMG Models at 15, later making his runway debut for Moschino in Los Angeles before appearing at a Dolce & Gabbana show in Milan and in a Calvin Klein campaign.
He and Kaia began attracting significant attention in the fashion world as teenagers, with Presley telling People in 2018 that working alongside his sister made modelling “a lot less lonely”.
Presley had spoken publicly about his struggles with mental health and substance abuse, including his experiences with depression, and began posting “Mental Health Mondays” videos on Instagram in which he discussed recovery and healthy habits.
“Having struggled with mental health, depression and some other things that come along with that, I think that whether I help one person or a hundred people get out of that place that I was in at one point in my life, that’s all I need to do,” he said on the Studio 22 podcast.
“[Mental health] is an issue. It is such a big part of my life. It’s a 24/7 job, and there’s so much to it,” Presley continued, adding that he wanted to help people struggling with issues affecting their lives “without judgment”.
He also said he hoped sharing his experiences could help others avoid making the same mistakes, while his Instagram posts in 2024 and 2025 detailed aspects of his recovery and efforts to return to an active lifestyle after years away from sports.
Presley was charged with driving under the influence in December 2019, while he also publicly discussed taking Buprenorphine, Xanax and Valium for panic attacks in a since-deleted Instagram video posted in December 2025.
In the September 2026 issue of Vogue , Kaia described her brother’s openness about his struggles as a source of inspiration and reflected on how his difficulties had affected the family, saying: “My parents for most of our lives were very, very private and didn’t share anything — and now we have this absolute teacher, my brother, who says, ‘I’m gonna be very human for everyone.’ There’s only so much you can hide from the world.”
