Deepavali Bazaar fees slashed 85pc, Hannah Yeoh sets RM400 cap in Brickfields

The 2026 Deepavali Bazaar in Kuala Lumpur has reduced participation fees by 85% to RM400, aligning with the rates for Ramadan bazaars.

The trading period has been extended to 30 days, and more lots are available to support cost reduction for traders.

The bazaar, managed under a hybrid model involving DBKL and various associations, will operate from October 9 to November 7 across two locations, with measures in place to address potential traffic congestion.

Interested parties can apply directly to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 21 — Participation fees for Kuala Lumpur’s 2026 Deepavali Bazaar have been cut by 85 per cent to a maximum of RM400, including the deposit, as part of efforts to reduce costs for traders.

This year’s RM400 fee comprises a RM30 licence fee, RM150 service charge, RM150 site rental and RM70 deposit.

In comparison, traders had to pay RM2,626 in 2025, comprising a RM21 licence fee, RM105 service charge, RM500 site rental and RM2,000 deposit.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh said the new rate was in line with that charged for Ramadan bazaars, while the trading period would be extended to 30 days from 21 previously.

“Our focus is simple – we want to reduce costs for traders and give them a longer period to do business. The number of lots has also increased this year, consistent with our approach of reducing the cost of doing business for traders in Kuala Lumpur.

“The benefits will reach both traders and city residents. Anyone interested should apply directly to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL). I do not want middlemen charging thousands of ringgit when we have set the fee at only RM400,” she told a press conference on the bazaar today.

Also present was Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Fadlun Mak Ujud.

The 2026 Deepavali Bazaar will run from Oct 9 to Nov 7 at two locations, namely at the Tun Sambanthan Complex car park and at Jalan Bunus 6 off Jalan Masjid India.

Under the Mega Deepavali concept, a total of 172 trading lots will be available across the two locations, along with bazaar trader licences and temporary entertainment and promotional licences.

Another 30 temporary entertainment and promotional licences will be available to premises along Jalan Tun Sambanthan, subject to applications from their owners.

According to Fadlun, this year’s bazaar would adopt a hybrid management model, with DBKL retaining responsibility for licensing, regulation and enforcement while associations assist with operations.

The four participating associations are Pertubuhan Kebajikan Peniaga dan Penjaja Kecil Interaksi Kuala Lumpur & Selangor (PKPPKI), Persatuan Prihatin Peniaga Little India Brickfields, Persatuan Penjaja Medan Selera Pines Bazaar Brickfields and Malaysia Hindu Sangam Wilayah Persekutuan.

“We have advertised the bazaar and expect strong interest from the associations. The balloting process will take place on Sept 22 and 23,” Fadlun said.

Addressing concerns over possible traffic congestion around Jalan Tun Sambanthan during the bazaar, he said DBKL had considered the issue before selecting the location.

“We looked at this from the outset before identifying the bazaar site. We have considered alternative routes and will ensure strict traffic control throughout the bazaar period,” he said. — Bernama

今年的 400 令吉费用包括 30 令吉的许可证费、150 令吉的服务费、150 令吉的场地租金和 70 令吉的押金。

相比之下，到 2025 年，商户需要支付 2,626 令吉，其中包括 21 令吉的许可证费、105 令吉的服务费、500 令吉的场地租金和 2,000 令吉的押金。

首相署（联邦直辖区）部长杨巧双表示，新的收费标准与斋月市集的收费标准一致，交易期将从之前的 21 天延长至 30 天。

“我们的目标很简单——我们希望降低交易者的成本，并延长他们的交易时间。今年的交易批次数量也有所增加，这与我们降低吉隆坡交易者交易成本的方针是一致的。”

“这项举措将惠及商户和市民。有意者可直接向吉隆坡市政厅（DBKL）申请。我们已将费用定为400令吉，我不希望中间商收取数千令吉的费用。”她今天在集市举行的记者招待会上表示。

出席者包括吉隆坡市长拿督斯里法德伦麦乌朱德。

针对集市期间 Jalan Tun Sambanthan 附近可能出现的交通拥堵问题，他表示吉隆坡市政局在选择集市地点之前已经考虑到了这个问题。
