A 44-year-old South Korean was sentenced to three months' jail after he secretly recorded his ex-girlfriend during intimate video calls without her consent.
He pleaded guilty to one of three charges involving the unauthorised recording of the woman and offences under the Films Act.
According to a report by Shin Min Daily News, he met his 45-year-old ex-girlfriend on Tinder in 2022, and they entered into a relationship.
When they were in different countries, they maintained their relationship through video calls.
During some of their video calls, they engaged in intimate conversations and activities.
She had repeatedly told him that she did not want to be recorded and asked him to confirm that he was not doing so.
He told her that he did not know how to record his screen.
But between Feb 18 and Oct 23, 2023, he secretly recorded 17 videos of her during their intimate video calls.
The videos ranged from about seven to 56 minutes long, and were stored on a hard drive at his home in Singapore.
The pair broke up in January 2024, after which the man began dating another woman, aged 37.
New girlfriend discovered videos
On Jan 6, 2024, his new girlfriend was helping him clean his home when she discovered the hard drive containing the recordings.
She confronted him the following day and demanded that he delete the videos.
He subsequently destroyed the hard drive, because he feared it could be used as evidence against him.
On May 15 that year, the new girlfriend left a comment on the victim's social media account informing her about what had happened.
It helped in "exposing the crimes committed by the defendant", Shin Min reported.

新女友发现了视频
2024 年 1 月 6 日，他的新女友在帮他打扫房子时发现了装有录音的硬盘。
第二天，她当面质问他，要求他删除视频。
随后他销毁了硬盘，因为他担心硬盘会成为指控他的证据。
同年5月15日，新女友在受害者的社交媒体账户上留言，告知她所发生的事情。
