FAA equipment outage causing significant delays at Northeast airports

A Federal Aviation Administration equipment outage is causing significant flight delays at five Northeast airports: Newark Liberty International Airport, Teterboro Airport, Philadelphia International Airport, La Guardia Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport.

The FAA attributed the issue to a fiber cable that was accidentally cut at a construction site in New Jersey, Reuters reported.

The agency has issued ground stops at the airports “due to issues with Philadelphia TRACON,” officials said in a statement.

Philadelphia TRACON is a facility combining radar approach control and air traffic control operations.

Delays out of Teterboro are the longest, with the airport reporting more than 255 minutes.

FAA did not provide a timeline for the ground stops to be lifted.
