Fencer Kiria Tikanah storms into women’s epee semis to seal S’pore’s fourth Asian Games medal

NAGOYA – National fencer Kiria Tikanah secured Singapore a fourth medal at the 2026 Asian Games, after booking her spot in the women’s epee semi-finals on Sept 22.

At the Aichi Sky Expo, the 26-year-old beat Kazakhstan’s reigning Asian champion Irina Bakaldina 15-14 in the quarter-finals to earn her place in the last four.

Since losing semi-finalists are awarded joint bronzes, the three-gold SEA Games medallist is guaranteed a medal.

In the pool round earlier that day, Kiria placed second in Pool 3, after winning four of her five bouts.

The 2025 Asian championships individual epee bronze medallist received a bye into the table of 16, before beating Japan’s Miho Yoshimura 14-13 to advance to the quarter-finals.

She will face China’s Yang Jing Wen next in the semi-finals, while South Korea’s Song Se-ra will come up against Japan’s Tamaki Terayama, who defeated Singapore’s Elle Koh 15-11 in the last eight.

This is Singapore’s first women’s epee medal and only their third in fencing at the quadrennial event.

Lim Wei Wen won the Republic’s first medal in the sport in 2014 when he claimed the men’s epee bronze, before the women’s foil team clinched bronze at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games.

At the previous edition of the Games in 2023, Kiria finished 15th after she was eliminated in the table of 16.

名古屋——新加坡国家击剑运动员基里亚·蒂卡纳在9月22日晋级女子重剑半决赛后，为新加坡赢得了2026年亚运会的第四枚奖牌。

在爱知天空博览会上，这位 26 岁的选手在四分之一决赛中以 15-14 击败了哈萨克斯坦的卫冕亚洲冠军伊琳娜·巴卡尔迪娜，从而晋级四强。

由于半决赛失利者将获得并列铜牌，因此获得三枚金牌的东南亚运动会奖牌获得者必定获得一枚奖牌。

在当天早些时候的小组赛中，基里亚在第三组中排名第二，她在五场比赛中赢了四场。

2025 年亚洲锦标赛女子重剑个人铜牌得主直接晋级 16 强，随后以 14-13 击败日本选手吉村美穗，晋级四分之一决赛。

这是新加坡在该四年一度的赛事中获得的首枚女子重剑奖牌，也是他们在击剑项目上的第三枚奖牌。

林伟文在 2014 年为新加坡赢得了该项目的第一枚奖牌，当时他获得了男子重剑铜牌；之后，女子花剑团体在 2018 年雅加达亚运会上获得了铜牌。

在 2023 年上一届奥运会上，基里亚在 16 强赛中被淘汰，最终排名第 15 位。
