ICA officers lift car bonnet, find over 1,600 vaporisers at Woodlands Checkpoint

Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers found more than just car components in the engine bay of a Malaysia-registered car during an enhanced check at Woodlands Checkpoint on Sept 9.

Pictures posted by ICA on its Facebook page on Tuesday (Sept 22) show the engine bay stacked with boxes of vaporisers, hidden underneath black thrash bags taped over the top of the bay.

The haul was later laid out across at least six tables.

ICA said that the vehicle was directed for further checks based on information received from its Integrated Targeting Centre, where search and examination officers found more than 1,600 vaporisers and related components hidden under the bonnet of the car.

The 32-year-old male Malaysian driver was arrested and the case referred to the Health Sciences Authority for further investigation.

Under the Tobacco and Vaporises Control Act (TVCA), etomidate and its analogues are listed as Specified Psychoactive Substances in the Schedule.

If convicted, importers face up to 20 years’ imprisonment and up to 15 strokes of the cane, while suppliers could be jailed up to 10 years and receive up to five strokes of the cane.

如果罪名成立，进口商将面临最高 20 年监禁和最高 15 下鞭刑，而供应商可能面临最高 10 年监禁和最高 5 下鞭刑。
