Man arrested for allegedly driving under influence of drugs after accident in Ang Mo Kio

A 33-year-old man was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of drugs after a two-vehicle accident in Ang Mo Kio in the early hours of Tuesday (Sept 22) morning.

The incident, involving a taxi and a car, happened at about 1.45am along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 towards Buangkok Green.

A photograph of the aftermath on social media shows the car stopped across two lanes on Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5.

Debris could be seen around the black car and its airbags are activated.

Meanwhile, the male driver is seen sitting by the roadside.

Police told AsiaOne that driver was attended to by Singapore Civil Defence Force paramedics but refused to be taken to hospital.

No other injuries were reported in the incident.

A vaporiser and a pod found in his possession were seized and referred to the Health Sciences Authority.

The police added that he was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence of drugs.

Police investigations are ongoing.

The offence of driving under the influence of drugs carries a penalty of up to 12 months' imprisonment, a fine of up to $10,000 or both.

In the case of a second or subsequent conviction, the offence carries a fine of up to $20,000, and up to two years' jail. Offenders may also be disqualified from driving all classes of vehicles.

警方从他身上搜出一个电子烟和一个烟弹，并没收后移交卫生科学管理局。

警方补充说，他随后因吸毒后驾驶而被捕。

警方调查仍在进行中。

吸毒后驾驶的违法行为最高可判处 12 个月监禁，并处以最高 10,000 美元的罚款，或两者并罚。

若为第二次或多次定罪，该罪行最高可处以2万美元罚款和两年监禁。违法者还可能被吊销所有类型车辆的驾驶资格。
