Former Kelantan Kafa teacher gets RM2,000 fine for kicking Year Five pupil in face during class

A former Kafa teacher, Abdullah Mustakim, was fined RM2,000 by the Magistrate's Court in Kuala Krai for kicking a Year Five pupil in the face, resulting in gum injuries.

Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid imposed the maximum penalty with a default jail term of four months, following Abdullah's guilty plea to causing hurt in a classroom incident.

The charge, under Section 323 of the Penal Code, highlights the potential for a prison term of up to one year, a maximum fine of RM2,000, or both.

Abdullah, who now earns RM1,000 monthly as a laborer, was represented by a lawyer from the National Legal Aid Foundation.

KUALA KRAI, Sept 23 — A former Religious and Fardu Ain Class (Kafa) teacher was fined RM2,000 by the Magistrate’s Court here today for kicking a Year Five pupil in the face, causing injuries to his gums.

Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid imposed the maximum fine, with a default of four months in jail, after Abdullah Mustakim, 33, pleaded guilty to voluntarily causing hurt to the pupil in a classroom at a school here at about 2.30 pm on Oct 23, 2024.

Abdullah was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum prison term of one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mazlinda Mohd Nor prosecuted, while Abdullah, who now works as a labourer earning RM1,000 a month and supports a wife and three young children, was represented by lawyer Farazalila Fauzi from the National Legal Aid Foundation.

According to the facts of the case, the pupil’s mother was at a night market at about 5.15 pm on the day of the incident when her son told her that Abdullah had kicked him in the face during a Kafa class at the school.
