Police announce three‑stage road closures for Kuching Marathon from Sept 26 to 27

Road closures and diversions for the Kuching Marathon 2026 begin at midday on September 26 and end at 10am on September 27.

Key roads affected include Lebuh Wayang, Jalan Main Bazaar, Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Jalan Pearl, and another 22 locations along the marathon route.

Police advise the public to avoid parking on road shoulders, plan journeys, and use alternative routes to minimise congestion.

KUCHING, Sept 23 — Road closures and traffic diversions for the Kuching Marathon 2026 will be implemented in three stages from midday Saturday (September 26) until Sunday morning (September 27).

Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the first closures would begin at noon on September 26 and involve Lebuh Wayang-Jalan Main Bazaar, Jalan Main Bazaar-Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, and Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg-Carpenter Street.

These three locations will remain closed until 10am on September 27 to facilitate preparations for the event.

The Jalan Barrack-Jalan Pearl junction will then be closed from 10pm on September 26 until 10am the following day.

From 12.01am to 10am on September 27, closures and diversions will be implemented at another 22 locations along the marathon route.

These include the Jalan Pearl-Jalan Wawasan traffic lights towards Padang Merdeka, Lebuh Wayang-Jalan Wawasan, Jalan McDougall-Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, and Susur Jalan Haji Taha.

Also affected are the Jalan Ajibah Abol traffic lights, Jalan Muhibbah-Jalan Kulas junction, Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakob-Jalan Merdeka junction, Jalan Kampung Lintang-Jalan Astana traffic lights, Mahkamah roundabout, Sesco roundabout, and Samariang roundabout.

The closures will also cover the Jalan Sultan Tengah traffic lights near the fire station and Sego, Yayasan roundabout, Kesuma Resort roundabout, Stadium roundabout, Gersik roundabout, Merrican Salleh-Jalan Kwong Lee Bank traffic lights, Tanah Putih Clinic traffic lights, Jalan Sekama-Pending traffic lights, Sri Aman roundabout, and Jalan Gamelan-Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakob junction.

“PDRM seeks the cooperation of the public not to park vehicles along road shoulders and advises motorists to plan their journeys and use alternative routes to reduce traffic congestion,” Alexson said in a statement.
