A 38-year-old private-hire vehicle (PHV) driver died after he suffered a suspected heart attack while driving on Joo Chiat Road on Wednesday (Sept 2).
The police told AsiaOne that they were alert to the incident which happened at around 11am on Joo Chiat Road towards Marine Parade Central and involved two cars.
The PHV driver was taken unconscious to the hospital where he subsequently died.
Police investigations are ongoing.
According to Shin Min Daily News, the driver is suspected to have suffered a heart attack, causing him to lose control of his vehicle and crash into the car in front.
A nearby restaurant employee, identified as Amiru, 39, told Shin Min that a customer rushed to help after seeing the driver unconscious at the wheel.
"He sat motionless in the driver's seat, and soon someone rushed over to perform CPR," Shin Min quoted the employee as saying.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed with AsiaOne that it was alerted to the incident, and one person was taken to Changi General Hospital.
A reader known only as Hong, 55, told the Chinese daily that he was passing through the area when he noticed the two vehicles had collided.
He also saw people attending to the driver.
When Shin Min reporters arrived at the scene, they saw a red Nissan Qashqai and a grey Mazda bearing a private-hire vehicle decal there.
The Mazda's front bumper had fallen off and its headlights shattered, with vehicle parts scattered around.
The Nissan driver, who wished to remain anonymous, told Shin Min that he was on his way to work when he suddenly felt his car being hit from behind.
After getting out to inspect the damage, he noticed that the male driver in the Mazda had lost consciousness.

马自达汽车的前保险杠脱落，前大灯破碎，车辆零件散落在周围。
这位不愿透露姓名的日产车司机告诉《新明日报》，他当时正在上班途中，突然感觉自己的车被从后面撞了。
下车查看损失情况后，他发现马自达车内的男司机已经失去意识。
