NAGOYA, Japan, Sept. 23 (Yonhap) -- North Korea scooped up two gold medals in weightlifting at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Wednesday, ending its gold medal drought on the fourth day of competition.

Ri Song-gum won gold after finishing with a total of 215 kilograms, lifting 94kg in the snatch, and 121kg in the clean and jerk in the women's 48kg event at Nagoya City Trade and Industry Center in Nagoya, Japan.

All three marks -- her snatch, clean and jerk, and total -- were new world records.

Mirabai Chanu Saikhom of India won silver with a total of 198kg and Luluk Diana Tri Wijayana of Indonesia won bronze.

Ri's gold is North Korea's first gold medal at the Asian Games in Japan.

Ri has won the lightest weight class at three consecutive Asian Games, dating back to the 2018 competition.

She won the world championships in 2024 and 2025.

Later in the women's 53kg final, North Korea's Kang Hyon-gyong lifted 99 kg in the snatch, and 124kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 223kg.

She broke the Asian Games record in all three marks.

Kang also won the title for the second consecutive Asian Games.

Zhao Jinlan of China and Surodchana Khambao of Thailand won the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

With two gold medals in women's weightlifting, North Korea has collected five medals -- two golds, one silver and two bronzes -- to rank ninth in the medal standings.
