Israel’s ambassador to the US says son injured in West Bank car-ramming

Israel’s Ambassador to the United States Yechiel Leiter has said his son, a soldier, was injured in an alleged car-ramming incident west of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.

Earlier on Wednesday, a Palestinian man was shot dead by Israeli forces following what Israeli police described as a car-ramming attack that injured a soldier at a checkpoint at an intersection near the illegal Israeli settlement of Beit Horon, Israeli police said in a brief statement.

Leiter said in a social media post that medics “are now fighting to save the life of Neria Dov ben Chana”, referring to his son.

Later, Shaare Zedek Hospital said the soldier underwent a complex surgery, and his life remains at risk.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the wounded soldier in hospital before departing for the United States to his planned address to the United Nations General Assembly, according to his office.

In a post on X, Netanyahu wrote, “I recently visited the dear family of Neria Leiter…I ask you to pray for the recovery of Neria Dov ben Chana. The entire nation is with you”.

In an earlier post Netanyahu wrote, “My wife Sara and I, together with all the people of Israel, are praying for a miracle”.

Another son of Leiter’s, 39-year-old Moshe Yedidya, was killed while deployed in Gaza in November 2023, just weeks after the beginning of Israel’s genocidal war on the enclave on October 7.

Suspected attacker identified

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Health Ministry identified the suspected attacker as 29-year-old Mahmoud Mohammad Mahmoud Suleiman, adding that Israeli authorities were holding his body.

Beit Ur al-Tahta Mayor Hazem Suleiman, who is not related to Mahmoud Suleiman, was quoted by the AFP news agency as saying that Israeli forces raided the village and searched the man’s family home.

“The town is closed off, with all its entrances blocked. There is no social or commercial activity and no signs of normal life,” he said, adding that the army had also searched other houses.

内塔尼亚胡在X网站上发帖写道：“我最近探望了内里亚·莱特的家人……请大家为内里亚·多夫·本·查娜的康复祈祷。全国人民与你们同在。”

内塔尼亚胡此前曾发帖称：“我和我的妻子萨拉，以及所有以色列人民，都在祈祷奇迹发生。”

莱特的另一个儿子，39 岁的摩西·耶迪迪亚，于 2023 年 11 月在加沙服役期间丧生，当时距离以色列于 10 月 7 日开始对加沙地带发动种族灭绝战争仅几周时间。

嫌疑攻击者身份已确认

与此同时，巴勒斯坦卫生部确认嫌疑袭击者为 29 岁的马哈茂德·穆罕默德·马哈茂德·苏莱曼，并补充说以色列当局扣押了他的尸体。

据法新社报道，贝特乌尔塔赫塔市市长哈泽姆·苏莱曼（与马哈茂德·苏莱曼并无亲属关系）表示，以色列军队突袭了该村，并搜查了该男子的家。

“整个城镇都被封锁了，所有入口都被堵死了。没有任何社会或商业活动，也看不到任何正常生活的迹象，”他说道，并补充说军队还搜查了其他房屋。
