Police announce staged KL diversions as Sunday Coway Run shuts 34 roads

On September 27, extensive road closures and traffic diversions will occur across 34 routes in Kuala Lumpur due to the Coway Run 2026 at Merdeka Stadium, expected to involve 10,000 participants.

The Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department has planned these closures starting from 3.30 am, with roads reopening in stages post-event.

The public is advised to use alternative transport, comply with traffic personnel, and seek information from local police stations to minimize disruption and ensure safety.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24 — Thirty-four roads around the capital will be subject to road closures and traffic diversions in stages on Sunday (Sept 27) in conjunction with the Coway Run 2026 at the Merdeka Stadium here.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department deputy chief Supt Suffian Abdullah said the closures and diversions would begin as early as 3.30am on Sunday and the roads would be reopened in stages after the conclusion of the event, which is expected to attract about 10,000 participants.

“The roads involved are Jalan Stadium, Jalan Maharajalela, Jalan Dewan Bahasa, Jalan Bukit Petaling, Jalan Bellamy, Jalan Hang Tuah, Jalan Hang Jebat, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan Conlay and Jalan Kia Peng.

“Also involved are Jalan Perak, Jalan P. Ramlee, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Putra, Jalan Tun Ismail, Jalan Tunku, Jalan Langgak Tunku, Jalan Pinggiran Tunku, Jalan Girdle, Jalan Bukit Tunku and Jalan Sultan Salahuddin,” he said in a statement today.

He said that other roads that would also be closed were Lebuhraya Sultan Iskandar, Jalan Persiaran Sultan Salahuddin, Jalan Parlimen, Jalan Dato Onn, Bulatan Dato Onn, Jalan Kinabalu, Jalan Tun Perak, Jalan Pudu, Jalan Sultan, Jalan Petaling and Bulatan Merdeka.

Suffian said the Coway Run comprised three main categories: the 30-kilometre (km) run starting at 4am; the 10km run starting at 5.15am; and the 5km Fun Run at 7am.

As such, he advised the public to avoid using the affected roads throughout the event, plan their journeys in advance and use alternative routes, as well as opt for public transport to reduce traffic congestion.

“Members of the public are also advised to comply with instructions from police and traffic personnel on duty at the locations to ensure safety and smooth traffic flow, as well as to practise responsible driving and remain patient throughout the road closures,” he added.

因此，他建议公众在活动期间避免使用受影响的道路，提前规划行程并使用替代路线，以及选择公共交通工具以减少交通拥堵。

他还补充道：“同时建议公众遵守现场执勤的警察和交通人员的指示，以确保安全和交通顺畅，并遵守安全驾驶原则，在道路封闭期间保持耐心。”
