Woman to be charged over public assemblies without valid permit on six occasions

SINGAPORE – A woman is set to be charged on Sept 25 over participating in a public assembly without a permit on six occasions.

The woman, 62 , had several past convictions, the police said in a statement on Sept 24.

On Oct 12, 2024, the woman took part in a public assembly without a permit at Merlion Park. This was followed by five crimes of a similar nature on June 25, Oct 10, Oct 25, Nov 24 in 2025 , and again on Feb 14 in 2026.

The woman was previously convicted of similar offences in 2001, 2005, and 2007.

In July 2020, she was issued a 12-month conditional warning for participating in a public assembly without a permit.

Despite these past convictions and conditional warning, the woman remained recalcitrant and continued to participate in public assemblies without a permit, the police said.

She is set to be charged in court with six counts of participating in a public assembly without a permit. If found guilty of the offence, she can be fined up to $3,000.

The police will not grant permits for assemblies that advocate for the political causes of other countries or foreign entities that may stir emotions and lead to public order incidents, the authorities said.

“Members of the public are urged not to engage in activities that may undermine the peace, public order and social harmony in Singapore,” they said.

警方表示，尽管该女子曾有犯罪记录并受到有条件警告，但她仍然执迷不悟，继续在没有许可证的情况下参加公共集会。

她将被控六项未经许可参与公共集会的罪名。如果罪名成立，她可能被处以最高3000美元的罚款。

警方表示，不会批准任何宣扬其他国家或外国实体政治主张、可能煽动情绪并导致公共秩序事件的集会。

他们表示：“呼吁公众不要参与任何可能破坏新加坡和平、公共秩序和社会和谐的活动。”
