Chairman of NTUC Enterprise and president of the Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF) Tan Hee Teck will take over as chairman of the Health Promotion Board (HPB) on Oct 1, the Ministry of Health (MOH) and HPB announced on Thursday (Sept 24).

He takes over from Wong Kim Yin, who became the board's chairman in April 2024.

Tan has over 20 years of strategic leadership and management experience across business, public and community sectors.

He was formerly chairman and chief executive officer of Resorts World Sentosa and chief executive officer of Genting Singapore.

At NTUC Enterprise, Tan oversaw the group's social mission, including its impact businesses that support working families.

In his capacity as president of SNEF, he is said to have advocated for small and medium enterprises, promoted workforce development and assumed a key role in the Singapore Economic Resilience Taskforce, MOH and HPB noted.

They added that Tan's appointment will allow his diverse experience to be used in providing strategic guidance to the board and leadership as HPB advances its health promotion efforts in support of Healthier SG , Age Well SG and Grow Well SG.

His term will end on Sept 30, 2029.

The ministry and agency also paid tribute to outgoing chairman Wong for his contributions and leadership, noting that his counsel had helped shape HPB's core initiatives.

These, they said, included efforts to reduce sodium intake by working with industry partners to expand the availability of lower-sodium alternatives in the market, and the launch of an evidence-based Design Guide to strengthen the quality of mental well-being programmes in Singapore.

During Wong's tenure, HPB had also strengthened its ecosystems that support the diverse health needs of residents such as consolidating its Healthy 365 offerings within one platform.

The app was also enhanced to introduce more tailored digital nudges, as well as programmes such as "Age Strong" that helps older adults build healthy habits through its gamified design.

According to MOH and HPB, there are now nearly 900,000 monthly active users who use the app as a personalised health companion.
