Lee pays respects to patriots of Mexico ahead of summit with Sheinbaum

MEXICO CITY — South Korean President Lee Jae Myung paid his respects to the fallen heroes of Mexico on Thursday, ahead of his scheduled summit with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum in Mexico City.

Lee laid flowers and observed a moment of silence at the Altar a la Patria in Chapultepec Park, a major national monument honoring Mexico's national defenders and military heroes.

Later in the day, the South Korean president was set to hold summit talks with the Mexican president, attend a ceremony for the signing of agreements between the two countries and make a joint press announcement with her.

Lee is currently on a state visit to Mexico as the two countries seek to expand bilateral trade and investment and enhance cooperation in energy and critical mineral supply chains.

In an interview with Mexican newspaper El Universal, released Wednesday, Lee said combining South Korea's technology with Mexico's strong industrial base can create new growth, citing artificial intelligence and supply chains among areas for cooperation.

李在周三发布的接受墨西哥报纸《环球报》采访时表示，将韩国的技术与墨西哥强大的工业基础相结合，可以创造新的增长，并列举了人工智能和供应链等合作领域。
