A 62-year-old woman will be charged in court on Friday (Sept 25) for allegedly participating in six public assemblies without a permit, despite having previous convictions for similar offences.
According to the Singapore Police Force (SPF), the woman was first convicted of participating in an unpermitted public assembly in 2001, followed by further convictions in 2005 and 2007.
She was also issued a 12-month conditional warning in July 2020 for participating in a public assembly without a permit under Section 16(2)(a) of the Public Order Act.
Despite these, she allegedly took part in six further unpermitted public assemblies between 2024 and 2026.
The first of these six incidents took place on Oct 12, 2024, at Merlion Park.
She was subsequently allegedly involved in similar incidents on June 25, Oct 10, Oct 25 and Nov 24 in 2025, as well as Feb 14, 2026.
The woman will face six counts of participating in a public assembly without a permit under Section 16(2)(a) of the Public Order Act.
If convicted, each offence carries a fine of up to $3,000.
SPF said public assemblies in Singapore are regulated under the Public Order Act, and organising or participating in one without a police permit constitutes an offence.
The Police also said permits will not be granted for assemblies advocating the political causes of other countries or foreign entities that may stir emotions and lead to public order incidents.
SPF added that it would take enforcement action against breaches of the Act, including against individuals who repeatedly contravene its requirements.
