Immigration detains 84 foreign nationals in two-phase raid at Putrajaya’s ‘Green Flats’

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 25 — The Immigration Department detained 84 foreign nationals under Ops Pintu at Pangsapuri Putra Harmoni, better known as the “Green Flats”, here following intelligence gathering and public tip-offs.

It said 60 Immigration personnel conducted the operation in two phases beginning yesterday.

“The first phase of the operation began at 11.30am yesterday, with business premises in the apartment area inspected and enforcement action taken.

“The operation resumed at 1.3 am today, with residents suspected of being illegal immigrants as the main target,” it said in a statement today.

It said 321 people were inspected, while 84 foreign nationals — 73 men, nine women and two children — were detained for further investigation.

“Intelligence gathering revealed the presence of foreign nationals residing in the area, with some believed to be conducting business activities there,” it said, adding that Ops Pintu was a continuation of enforcement operations in settlements identified as having a high density of foreign nationals, following an operation conducted on September 9.

As such, the department urged owners of houses and premises to be responsible for their tenants and ensure that the immigration status of occupants or tenants is valid and complies with the stipulated requirements.

“At the same time, the public is encouraged to continue providing information regarding the presence of illegal immigrants or activities suspected of violating the law,” it added. — Bernama
